It's alive, it's alive! Here's a super enthusiastic article showing the revival and use of an almost-fifteen-year-old Asus eeePC netbook with a fresh installation of MX Linux MX-23.3 Libretto midweight distro with the Xfce desktop environment, covering numerous hardware- and software-related details, like clamshell cover buffing, dead CMOS battery, updates from old Debian archives before upgrade, new setup with the home partition reuse, existing user configuration and customization, fan control, Fn keys, overall compatibility, stability, performance and responsiveness, battery time, ergonomics, day-to-day usability - browsing, mail, music, videos up to 480p, writing, network sharing, encryption, tons and tons of fun, and more. Enjoy most profoundly. I know I did!

Great article as usual @Mrkvonic - :thumb: Im a massive HUGE fan of these older systems, and sharpening them up like a pencil point for many more years of good use.

I found my Asus. It has 3 OS.
    Win 10 20H2
    Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.3
    Linux Mint xfce

They all work, but slowly, and I'm not going to look at them again. But it is amazing that this old computer still works.

There has to be a fine line between light ui and nicely usable ui.

I've installed MX Linux 23.4 and Upgraded Win10 to 22H2. I'll play with them.

    As expected, Win10 was moribund.
Of the 3 Linux OS, I preferred Cinnamon. It loaded in 1 minute. Mint xfce 3 minutes. MX Linux 2 minutes.

For its age, the Asus eeePC is a lot of fun. This multi-boot was created. Partitions in order...

    Win10 22H2
    Mint Cinnamon 19.3
    Mint LMDE 6
    MX Linux 23.4
    Win XP 2
    Lubuntu 18.04
    Data
    Win XP Home

Brian, are you sure you have enough operating systems on it? Maybe a couple of more, just in case?

    Mrk,

I'm really glad you started this thread about the eeePC. I thought I'd never use it again.

I accept your challenge. Standby. I have images from a few years ago. Mint xfce and Win7.

I backed up the Data partition and then deleted it. I now have...

    BIBM
    Win10 22H2
    Mint Cinnamon 19.3
    Mint LMDE 6
    MX Linux 23.4
    Win XP 2
    Lubuntu 18.04
    Mint xfce 19.3
    Win7 1
    Win7 2
    Win7 3
    Win XP Home
    Image for Linux

All work. Not bad for a 120 GB SSD.

Is it possible to install Anydesk on this distro? I tried with the 32-bit version of 23.4 and it doesn't seem to work.
