I had to reinstall PHDM 17 Advanced with a new backup name. Now the program can't find the backups I made before I had to reinstall and rename it. How do I had the new install to continue using the same backups as before?
You most likely just need to let Paragon HDM know the path to your existing backup directory. It will then recognize your existing backups.
Click on the "External drive" and then navigate to your existing backup folder. Here is a link to an interactive product tour on Paragon website. Start it and navigate step by step: https://www.paragon-software.com/us/home/hdm-windows/#how_it_works
Here is the link to the user manual of Paragon HDM. Page 19 onward explain how to configure a backup task. (Please copy paste the link in your browser, it will open a pdf) https://download.paragon-software.com/doc/Paragon_Hard_Disk_Manager_17.pdf
I selected the backup folder I wanted. But it still created a new back up folder under the existing one as seen in the attached image.
It may have something to do with the type of backup you are making. Is it a full backup, differential backup chain, or an incremental backup chain? I do not use Paragon for backups and have not used it in a very long time. Maybe someone with recent experience with Paragon backups will jump in to help. There must be a way to point Paragon to an existing full image and have it start increments or differentials from that image. However, if paragon still does not recognize the older backups then you may just have to start a new backup chain.
I believe you are correct about just starting a new backup chain. The only thing I am concerned about is if on a restore of the backup, if the old backup chain would be recognized as valid to be restored from. Any ideas about that? I suppose I could try to start a restore and find out. But if it comes to that, maybe I'll wait and be surprised.
@Dave49, As long as the existing backups are not corrupted, or any link in the backup chain is not missing, Paragon should be able to restore from the old backups.
Interesting it would restore from the old backup chain as valid, but it won't recognize them as valid to continue to back up to that old thread. Go figure, huh? Well, thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.
