https://9to5linux.com/you-can-now-upgrade-your-linux-mint-21-3-pc-to-linux-mint-22-heres-how BUT, Mint does not have a flawless record with upgrades! And this one is no exception. A search of "Linux Mint upgrade problems" will show quite a few "Problems with upgrade Linux Mint 21.3 to 22" links. Yes, I will be upgrading to Wilma, but not for at least a week - I just can't trust Clem Lefebvre to ever get it right the first time. The blog also has many posts by users with upgrade problems' https://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=4731
Last I heard is the upgrade path isn’t even available yet! Folks borking things by not waiting for it.
Just because I had a copy installed in a VM and could roll it back with 2 clicks I went ahead and upgraded as a test. It seemed to all go fine without any issues. I'd still wait on a live machine but it looks promising so far.
You're right and I always do, but I just couldn't stand it and upgraded anyway. My main HP ProDesk 600 upgraded from 21.3 to 22 in a little over half an hour. However, my little Dell Chromebox (running 21.3) took almost 2 hours to finally go through all the hoops and roadblocks to finally finish in 22 (note to self, don't upgrade after 9 PM). Both are running swimmingly, even though I really can't see much of any discernable difference with 21.
Or just download wilma, burn it to a usb drive, and boot into the live session and take it for a test drive.
Linux Mint 20 (LTS) supported until April 2025 Linux Mint 21 (LTS) supported until April 2027 What's the hurry?
Better wait till the first point release, Mint 22.1 which should be by December. Same principle for Ubuntu LTSes. It's safer, lots of bugs ironed out.
Haven't they heard that patience is a good thing? Today though, patience tends to mean delayed gratification. I won't be upgrading to Mint 22 for awhile as reasons already stated in previous posts and 2027 is far enough away for me to wait patiently.
Already taken it for a spin in that manner over here. Regardless of the wait for bug fixes, and since Windows 10 0n the new Dell of mine is safely Imaged, this "WILMA" 22 MINT is going to be installed on the Dell lappy. I guarantee it will be a much more simpler and wholesome experience than trying to install buggy Windows 11 where i ran into issues and it failed to upgrade. Think i'm all in. With my old hat Windows 8.1s all safely settled in their perspective units, looks like any new computers i resolve to buy will have to become Linux. Looking forward to that.
i had to reinstall mint 22 because my task panel disappeared. dunno, i'm linux beginner. most work was on firefox :/
