And the privacy nightmare begins. I'm glad I'm old and seen the "Good Old Days". Good luck younger generation dealing with this AI nightmare, wish you the best.
I was done at least 2-1/2 years ago. Yet here I am lol. I hear on you this though. I want nothing to do with it at all.
Let's not all start running around with our pants on our heads just yet. As it says in the article - which of course you all read - Closing Words Whether AI PCs will be the next big thing remains to be seen.
What fun would that be? Regardless of the role of AI in the future the privacy nightmare is only going to get worse. I am basing this on everything else that has happened so far since the beginning of the internet.
Another reason I won't be following the MS wagon. I'm more concerned about our phones and our cars. But, isn't it sad that when we were kids (at least when I was) we dreamed about talking to our cars, our homes, and our personal robots? But now that it's coming, it's been twisted into something perverse.
It looks like I won't be following the Apple wagon soon from what @ronjor just posted. https://www.wilderssecurity.com/thr...owser-alongside-new-operating-systems.454047/
The choice today, if you so choose, is to be a Modern Luddite or a Cyborg Jellyfish. It's Modern Luddite for me! FWIW: the original Luddites were neither opposed to technology nor inept at using it. They were highly skilled machine operators in the textile industry. The reason they protested and smashed the machinery was because of their dreadful working conditions & poor wages. As the Industrial Revolution began, workers were worried about being displaced, but the Luddites themselves were not against the technology. They wanted these machines to be run by workers who had gone through an apprenticeship and got paid decent wages. The original Luddites declared that we are human. Seeing their protest more clearly is a reminder that it’s possible to live well with technology, but only if we continually question the ways it shapes our lives.
I think "AI" is being over hyped. Putting "AI" in the name does not really mean it works using artificial intelligence. Better programming simply working as instructed. "AI" is in vogue. "AI" sells.
I found some YouTube video that presents how to install some local LLM model and then use it offline. IIRC it is LLama or something. I probably have too little RAM to use that at the moment, but eventually I will buy some memory and try it. It is fine for me to add NPU to computer as far as I can run model fully offline.
Agreed, just a marketing gimmick. So far. Real artificial intelligence would probably eliminate us as soon as it was able to do so.
LOL and Apple isn't that great with privacy either, it's all a facade. I will soon post a new topic about this.
If it will be used to collect more info from my PC, it's a problem. But I would like to see smarter image search technology, if this AI stuff can make it easier to find certain images on my PC, I'm all ears.
Thanks, will check it out. I honestly didn't know that such advanced image managers were already on the market. I just saw that ACDSee also offer a smart AI image searching feature. I used to use ACDSee like 20 years ago, but I switched to XnView when it became payware. https://shotkit.com/excire-foto-review/ https://www.acdsee.com/en/index/
