    sdmod or other users surely can tell you. I just saw that personally I still use 1.4.0.680. ;) (Without any problems.)

    Concerning licenses, I see that there are Internet stores which offer them for sale (like shadowdefender.com did it directly). Would it be legal to buy a license from such another vendor?

    @Space Ghost: Thank you. The question is if I would still receive the licencse key when the page of the shop does not exist any longer. So to order from there seems to me a little bit risky at the moment.

    This should work fine, but if you don't receive the product key, you can request a refund.

    Secure.avangate.com is a legitimate website, so you would be likely to get a refund, if there was problem in getting a license key. They have been involved in purchases for me in times, previously.

    I don't see any reason to buy a discontinued software. I'm still using Shadow Defender since I bought a licence a year ago.

    I agree. I have several licenses bought several years ago. The problem now is to find an alternative. One that works in my case is to create an image of the OS partition in an external NVMe drive. In my case, small OS partition without data, it takes less than 3 min, similar to restore. And it allows to test software that requieres a reboot to install.

    Well, in a certain way Shadow Defender was already discontinued a year ago when you bought it. ;)

    But apart from this, Shadow Defender works for my needs absolutely stable and reliable since a long time and I expect the same will happen on a second computer. (O.k., this other one is Windows 11 instead of Windows 10 but according to the reports here this should be no problem.) So it would be worth to me to buy one more license even if the software is discontinued.

    Not officially, but I'll keep using SD until It works.
    I think two things killed Shadow Defender:
    1. Piracy;
    2. Lifetime license.
    As said above, lifetime license isn't a wise business, since the developer don't get much resource in long run to keep development.

    I am looking for a replacement for Shadow Defender that will do what Shadow Defender does: allow instant commitments while in Shadow mode AND allow a folder to be put on the desktop where anything you put into it will stay after a reboot while in Shadow mode. Deep Freeze & Reboot Restore RX does not do this. I like the simplicity of SD.

    Yah, I had to stop using it about 18 months ago too for BSOD's. I would install and there would be no problems for a week or so then the BSOD's would start, tried several times over about 6 months and bsod every time.

    If you have 'core isolation' active in device security, (I think it is, on a new installation of Windows 11), it won't let SD reboot. I have uninstalled SD for a while as basically it is unnecessary IMO, it was working perfectly and core isolation could not be activated. When I tried to re-install SD because of dangerous surfing (with core isolation active) I just couldn't reboot into Windows, I had to restore an image with Macrium. I don't have SD installed anymore, M. Defender and Macrium are more than enough.
