This latest update of MS Edge is similarly not allowing me to disable the new screenshot saving option (on Windows 11.)
I edited the Registry as detailed in this article and didn't even have to reboot, that option was then changed to disabled and locked.
In v120 I had no problems to disable via settings. In v121 beta was not possible to disable it via settings. Disabled via the History (Ctrl+H) button. See option One here =
That is great news, thanks for posting Version 121 will be stable in the week of 25-Jan-2024. Microsoft Edge release schedule | Microsoft Learn
Thank you for the heads-up This worked, I didn't know that. Thanks for sharing! I had tried the method posted by @Bill K above, but it left the "Managed by your organization" warning, which I was not a fan of.
Remove "Your browser is managed by your organization" in Microsoft Edge browser https://www.thewindowsclub.com/your-browser-is-managed-by-your-organization-edge
Yep, I ended up deleting the registry keys and the warning. Your method posted above works well, the toggle even started working after that

Yesterday I did a PC reset and they also installed the newest Edge version, but how on earth is anyone using such crap? It seems to keep running in the background, and also seems to do whatever the heck it wants, I see all kinds of stupid features that pop up from out of nowhere. I also had to install a couple of extensions (icons get hidden, so silly) for basic functionality like seeing a blank page when you start a tab instead of some stupid M$ website, what a horrible browser!
Don't joke. Yes, it's true that's mostly unusable and there's too many useless and annoying popups and redirections, but this, You're talking about is only misconfigured or at all not configured browser... This I agree that it's one of not wanted browser at all, but the default settings iare really horror. To be briefly said, Microsoft violated a good browser and now tries to add Windows, Office and other gadgets into it. But this topic could be forgotten already, because fortunately its use is not fully mandatory yet.
I just don't use Edge at all and I use MSEdgeRedirect to direct Edge specific links to my default browser. And Edge won't stay in ram unless you start it and after rebooting or killing it it's gone again. In the near future you won't be able to uninstall Edge.
I also did a repair-installation of Windows yesterday and Edge was reinstalled. First thing I did was to get HiBit Uninstaller to whack that thing right off this computer. All the bits also that make it nag you. There's still lots left over in File Explorer as someone did correctly point out prev. but they're dormant. I'd rather install Chrome for test purposes than Edge. 100% of the time.
Who's joking? I mean it when I say that MS Edge is total crap. Good thinking, didn't know about MSEdgeRedirect. At the moment I'm trying to disable all of this Edge auto-updating crap. I was actually using a very old Edge version (one of the first based on Chromium) so it's the first new version I have tried in years. It has became way more annoying and acts like spyware. I forgot that I could actually uninstall it. I haven't tried Chrome in years, but I can't imagine being it as bad as Edge. I still would rather not install Chrome though. I think for testing, I will probably go for Brave.
Brave is nice for everyday stuff. I use Brave as my secondary browser when Firefox is acting up (mainly due to YouTube issues). I don't know at this point why I don't change my default to Brave. Prob. b/c of sentimental reasons. Sorry, a little off-topic. I will stick to Edge topics now.
Yes, I need a testing browser that doesn't annoy me that much. So that's why I'm planning to switch from Firefox to Waterfox and from Edge to Brave. Of course I almost never use these test browsers, the only browser that fulfills my needs is Vivaldi. I can't believe that not more people have switched to it.
I tried it in the past and found it unstable/unreliable. It may have improved since then but once someone has tried and rejected something it is unlikely they will revisit it.
we have a free world, ev'body ist free to use the browser of his/her/it choice - without pointless rants, nags, and sidekicks and spreaded spam.
I'm guessing you tried it way back, they are currently at version 6, you may want to check it out just for fun and see if you like it. At the end of the day it comes down to what features you need and if you want to be nagged or not. Edge is quite snappy, but it's way too annoying. Vivaldi has got features like tab stacking, workspaces, a handy bookmarks/history manager and mouse gestures out of the box. It also allows you to close tabs via double click and put the tab-bar on bottom of the screen. Plus it hasn't got any telemetry that monitors your browser usage. Yes exactly, it's a free world so that's why I wanted to post my opinion about how bad Edge has become. So no need for your pointless spam about my post, thank you very much.
I see what you mean now. To be fair, it's indeed possible to turn off many of the annoying things that I mentioned and it even has mouse gestures and let's you close tabs by double click. I see you can also disable the Copilot button. And it also doesn't stay in memory any longer after I changed some settings. So perhaps Edge isn't THAT bad after all. I'm actually surprised, it seems to almost have as many settings as Vivaldi. But this isn't always a good thing.
