Just wanted confirmation here: uBO v. 1.55 does not have the "purge all caches" button anymore in the Filter Lists section. Right? uBO hasn't yet updated in Brave (yep should be considering using the built-in blocker :thumb:) so this functionality is still there.

Edit: yes, it's in the changelog Rules provided in post #8092. Thanks, Rules!

Oh, OK, good riddance to the "purge" function, then. :thumb:

uBo offers to set time between updates, you can reduce it from 15 minutes to less. mine is set to 60 minutes. in case of failure i would use the "clock" symbol for uBo lists (those on top) first. ofc my habit is "broken" too, but i will give it a try.

Just confirming to myself: clicking the small green clock next to a filter list will force an update to that list. I was getting the anti-adblock message on YouTube again just now and had prev. relied on the "purge all caches"/"update now" functions to force an update. Now, this is done via the little green clock since uBO v. 1.55 eliminated the "purge" it seems. After refreshing the page, the YouTube overlay is gone for now.

If anyone wants to add more info, please feel free.

Clicking the clock forces an update, but if the clock is green that means it updated recently.

uBlock Origin 1.54 and 1.55 are supposed to work with Firefox 78+

However, trying to open uBlock Origin's dashboard results in an infinite loop on Firefox ESR 115 (by portableapps).

    Any ideas?

(uBlock Origin 1.53 works fine with Firefox ESR 115)

Kees1958 removed the YouTube rules from his PersonalBlocklist.
I,on the other hand, who do not use Chrome, need some rules to block the "use Chrome" pop-up as well.

It is interesting to read that he uses 2 profiles.

    In the:

    • Safe Profile
he uses uBlock Origin Lite (and JShelter).

    In the:

    • Compatible Profile
    it uses AdGuard MV3.

    So only AdBlockers (MV3).

Too many bugs or missing features to use AdGuard MV3.
Just me, I have opened 2 issues (but I would still have 2 that I am waiting to notify because they are less important) still unresolved.

I prefer to use uBlock Origin.:thumb::)

another reason why i dropped his list months ago. its entries may be futile or redundant, nevertheless his list is not reliable enough.

Me too and of course the MV2 version. I don't know why Kees1958 prefers MV3. At least it isn't my choice.

    P.S.

Perhaps he assumes that Gorhill will develop UBO (MV2) for Chromium less frequently than UBO (MV2) for Firefox after June 2024.

maybe, maybe not, the code is very identically except 3 files and the manifest to firefox. and he still maintains the legacy build, so why abandon uBo mv2 for older chromium builds?

btw, for the update of lists and missing purge button. no need to click all small clocks, for categories just click the clock for each category - that will update all lists in that category.

I already mentioned here that MV2 extensions will keep working until June 2025 with a policy set. :)

It is advised by the devs to leave the update to automatic.
Just let the differential updates do their work. :)
    https://github.com/ameshkov/diffupdates
uBO will look for a new diff for its own lists every 317 minutes, so does EasyList.

But are you certain that even if UBO MV2 for Chromium will continue to work, its development in updates will be inferior to the UBO MV2 version for Firefox?
Having an MV2 extension installed that receives few updates will likely make many users decide for a replacement.

In my opinion Gorhill will give development priority to uBlock Origin Lite and UBO for Firefox from June 2024.

We'll have to wait and see. I hope @gorhill will maintain it at least till the end of support for enterprises.

As long as the filter lists keep updating, it will be enough to get most ads blocked.
Of course you'll not have the benefit of new scriptlets or other enhancements.

Even the old uBlock Origin Legacy still works on Pale Moon, with the caveat that newer filter syntax is not recognized (e.g. $removeparam).
Some of the assets have changed URL's though and therefore @AstroSkipper from the MSFN forum has released a fixed version (see this post).

Is anyone using a Linux distro with Firefox latest version and uBlock Origin 1.55.0 and seeing
the warning under 'My Filters' Do not add filters from untrusted sources?
I seem to be getting all the other changes made to uBO, but not that one.

I can confirm that, on Kubuntu with Firefox snap latest version and uBlock Origin 1.55.0, in 'My filters' I see the warning "Do not add filters from untrusted sources".
But as Brummelchen said, this is not Linux nor Firefox related.

I don't know as why you don't get to see the "Do not add filters from untrusted sources" warning.
I think I recall someone mentioned resolution or zoom level could be a factor.
If I set Firefox zoom level to 150% for the uBO 'My filters' page, the "Do not add filters from untrusted sources" warning disappears. If zoom level is 140% or less, the warning reappears.

In my case at 100% zoom I don't see the warning, but when I reduce to 90% I see it. So it does seem to be a zoom thing. I'm running latest
1.55.1b7 on latest Firefox ppa version on MX-23 Linux.

On floorp browser which is Mozilla based, I see it at 100% but not at 110%. Go figure.

A good thing is that Firefox zoom level can be set differently for different domains and settings for different extensions, like uBlock Origin settings and filters. If you set the zoom level for uBO settings and filters at 90%, you're OK.
N.B. To save the zoom level setting, make sure that in Firefox Settings, Privacy & Security, History, Settings, 'Site settings' are not cleared when History is cleared.

Ha I didn't know that! I thought all along the zoom setting applied to all. I almost never use zoom but that's good to know. Thanks.

Didn't know it was a zoom issue. Thank you all. Firefox browser now shows uBlock Origin message:

Do not add filters from untrusted sources. One filter per line. A filter can be a plain hostname, or an
EasyList-compatible filter. Lines prefixed with ! will be ignored.

Firefox zoom: 90% at maximize window uBO message appears
Firefox zoom: 100% at maximize window uBO message doesn't appear

Librewolf zoom: 80% at maximize window uBO message appears
Librewolf zoom: 90% at maximize window uBO message doesn't appear
