Voted for AdGuard. Bought a lifetime license and am pleased with it. It works well and have had very few issues with sites giving me a hassle for using it. Haven't noticed any slow down or any conflicts with my security suite. Used uBlock Origin previously and still would be if not for AdGuard.
Adguard Browser Extension. For my website usage it just worked better than UBlock Origin (which only started now to include the actively click "consent button" Adguard had for years). I voted for uBlock Origin. I have a lifetime licence for AdGuard, but I haven't used this app recently. uBlock Origin just works well here.
AdGuard on all devices regardless of OS. The full desktop version with extension in browsers and the Pro version including DNS and VPN on mobile devices.
µBO in Firefox. µBOL in Chrome & Edge. Honorable mention to Ghostery and Privacy Badger (anti-tracking but blocks some ads).
Why should anyone care about my personal reason for choice? Especially on this forum are so lot of terribly smart people who have never been interested in any reason or explanation because they are damn smart themselves, even the smartest of the whole wolrd.
On Firefox uBlock Origin but mainly with AdGuard filters, on Chromium browsers AdGuard extensions and occasionally the AdGuard desktop which works the best at the cost of slightly slower browsing performance and higher resource usage. If I remember correctly, you use ESET and the last time I checked, ESET's web protection doesn't work at all when used with AdGuard for Desktop. I only checked on default settings, didn't test if it's the case when ESET's HTTPS scanning is off. So you should check that to verify by yourself.
UBO, I find its easy, pick a few lists and your good to go. I abhor fiddling with DNS, filter lists, browser settings, etc. Just give me something easy.
It was one of the first things I tested. I've seen evidence that it was an issue in the past but it seems to be resolved.
I also have a lifetime licence but not using it. Once in awhile I try it but after a couple of days I end up uninstalling it because it slows down my browsing compare to uBlock Origin…
Same over here, that's why I used Ghostery back in the day, but uBlock Origin was simply better. I do believe uBlock Lite is way too barebones. Same goes for Vivaldi's built-in adblocker.
Ublock origin without a doubt. Reaching back from its genesis; the blood, sweat, and tears that Raymond Hill went through to develop and eventually achieve universally and justifiably fame as a top tier project is second to none (other than perhaps the current coder and mastermind behind Sandboxie). Sure, my opinion is zilch. As well as maybe many of the opinions posted here on Wilders SF. But check this out. Take your pick. Dig around into as many platforms and forums as you can find. Reviews, poster comments, etc., renders UBO the current champion app of its type at the time of this posting. Curious to see if any poster can provide an actual reliable source where the statistical evidence consistently shows that UBO is secondary to _____. Happy New Year to all, BTW.
You are probably correct, especially with respect to forum members' views. The one weakness I see is the fact that @gorhill develops it almost single-handedly compared to e.g. Adguard or Ghostery.
I think it would/should be hard to beat any desktop adblocker that can do HTTPS filtering. (I know it is a trust thing/issue). I would be very surprised if you can with this option lose against any normal ad blocker. And as always my opinion is my own and can always be totally wrong
Doesn't he have a team of like two or three? I see them posting in his name on the GitHub site. For such a major product like uBO, you'd need several pairs of eyes all over it, wouldn't you? I think in the beginning, like in 2014, it was mainly just him. Maybe I'm wrong, I dunno.
