A new stable UCheck v5.1.0.0 was released today at https://www.adlice.com/ucheck/, but the change log at https://www.adlice.com/docs/ucheck/release-notes/changelog/ (which has an incorrect release date) only says "New UCheck exclusions, ability to exclude paths/folders/program names" and doesn't warn users who are not participating in BETA testing that any previously created exclusions will be wiped.

    Hi duf66:

If you're referring to the "missing" sort arrow for the sorted column, it's still there. You just have to use a magnifying glass to see the black up/down arrow on the dark blue background.:)

When I sort by the Program column:

    Hi @Tigzy :

Further to my 17-Dec-2023 post # 1261, the stable UCheck Free Portable v5.1.0.0 now correctly reports that iTunes for Windows v12.13.1.3 (rel. 15-Dec-2023) is the latest available version.

There's really no point doing that IMO. When using UCheck, what you want to do is to update outdated programs, why would you hide only the programs neededing an update ?

In the meantime, I can describe my problem.
    I use UCheck Free 5.1.0.0

3 programs are displayed as outdated, although the latest version is installed:

Firefox Nightly 123.0a1 is displayed as 122.0a1
Total Commander 11.0.2 is displayed as 11.0.2.6 = beta version
Tax 2022 from Buhl Data Service GmbH 30.06.3440 is displayed as 30.00.3010
    What can I do?
    Many thanks in advance!

    Hi Hans Rapp:
    1. Click the Upload a File button. Browse to the image and select it, and click Open to start the upload.
    2. Click inside the WYSIWYG editor to move the cursor to the location where you want to insert the uploaded image.
    3. Choose Thumbnail or Full Image.

I published a new BETA, it has new colors implemented and fixes a GDI handle leak issue leading to memory growth and crashes.

    Hi digenfr1:

I have two portable apps, BleachBit for Windows Portable v4.6.0 and WhyNotWin11 Portable v2.5.0.5, that UCheck BETA-1 v5.2.0.0 (rel. 22-Dec-2023) classifies as "Unsupported" instead of "Community" , so UCheck does not check for available updates for these programs. I assume this is because the "Company" name is missing for both these apps on the Portable tab of UCheck, but I am unsure why UCheck needs the "Company" name from the digital certificate of a portable app to make a positive match when other file attributes like Product Name, File Name, etc. for files like bleachbit.exe and WhyNotWin11.exe are available.

I suspect the BleachBit Portable disk cleaner app is used by many users in the wider UCheck community so I filed a bug report for BleachBit Portable at https://github.com/AdliceSoftware/UCheck/issues/28.

I'm just curious how members handle an update when it is for a beta program. Skip this version, exclude the update, or just ignore it until there is a stable program update? Unfortunately, UCheck is unable to allow members to opt out of betas. I am not finding fault, UCheck has come a long way in a short time.

    Hi @Tigzy :

Kudos for the excellent progress you've made in the past few months, especially with the detection of "Community" and Portable apps.

I ran UCheck Free Portable v5.2.0.0 (rel. 27-Dec-2023) as an Administrator and here are a few remaining glitches. Most of these have been reported for earlier UCheck BETA versions. Scan and debug logs are attached.

    Installed / Compatible
    • Microsoft OneDrive v23.246.1127.0002. UCheck detects older, outdated v23.226.1031.002 as LATEST.
    • Malwarebytes v4.6.6.294. Currently OK (a newer v4.6.7.301 was released 08-Dec-2023 but pulled due to bugs) but this is another Installed / Compatible app where detection of new versions by automated bots is very slow.
    Installed / Community
    • Microsoft Edge v120.0.2210.91. Latest version (rel. 21-Dec-2023) is installed but UCheck incorrectly flags STATUS as "Outdated" and LATEST as v121.0.2277.4 (BETA version released 15-Dec-2023 - see BETA release history at https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/microsoft-edge-relnote-beta-channel).
    • Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7783. UCheck only detects VERSION and LATEST to 1 decimal place (i.e., v8.0) so UCheck never detects an available update; Note that LOCATION in UCheck is missing but Product Version and File Version of C:\Program Files\Macrium\Reflect\reflect.exe is displayed as "8.0.7783" in the file properties. See bug report at https://github.com/AdliceSoftware/UCheck/issues/17.
    • Also note that I have excluded multiple programs associated with my Epson XP-7100 printer (e.g., Epson Scan 2, Epson Event Manager, etc.) because UCheck recommends newer software versions that do not appear to match my printer model (i.e., they are not detected by Epson Software Updater utility and are not recommended on the Epson support page for the XP-7100).
Installed / Unsupported (notable programs that are not "classified as Compatible" or "Community" and LATEST is missing)
    • Intel Driver & Support Assistant v23.4.39.9
    • Microsoft .NET Core Runtime (x64) v3.1.32.31915
    • Microsoft .NET Runtime (x64) v6.0.25
    • Microsoft Windows Desktop Runtime (x64) v7.0.14
    • QuickInstaller (Preview) v0.2.8748.37063 (COMPANY missing)
Portable / Not Listed in GUI
    • Geek Uninstaller Portable v1.5.2 and Revo Uninstaller Free Portable v2.4.5 are filter out by UCheck as "uninteresting" because PROGRAM includes the word "Uninstaller" but the FILE names (geek.exe, RevoUn.exe) do not include the string "portable". See bug report at https://github.com/AdliceSoftware/UCheck/issues/9.

Assume that you have a stable program and the update for that stable program is a beta. Do you install the beta update or wait for the update for the stable program? If you wait, do you mark the beta update as "skip this version, exclude the update, or just ignore it until there is a stable program update"? Hopefully, this is clear.

    Hi jpcummins:

Is there any particular program(s) that you are concerned about?

For example, UCheck always recommends a BETA version for my stable MS Edge browser, but this is a known bug that has been reported at https://github.com/AdliceSoftware/UCheck/issues/11 [see my 22-Dec-2023 post in mrhappy1525's Microsoft Edge (32-bit), version 120.0.2210.77 in the Adlice UCheck forum for a status update about this bug]. I have chosen to simply ignore the recommended BETA update for MS Edge on the Updates tab for now until a bug fix is released (or Tigzy re-classifies MS Edge as "Unsupported" so UCheck doesn't bother checking for the LATEST version) but others might prefer to right-click on Microsoft Edge on the Installed tab and choose "Exclude Software" or "Ignore Update". In the case of MS Edge it doesn't really matter what I choose to do because MS Edge performs automatic background update checks and will eventually update this browser for me if I don't do a manual check for updates at Help and Feedback | About Microsoft Edge.

Generally speaking, I would recommend that you do not install any BETA versions since they can be buggy and unstable, and they should only be installed if you have been advised to do so by the developer because it includes an important bug fix. BETA / preview versions are typically intended for system administrators in a business environment who want to test the BETA of an upcoming software release to look for bugs or potential problems, and then ensure those bugs are reported to the software developer and fixed before the next stable version goes into wide release. If you want to install a BETA version because you are a home computer enthusiast who wants to preview an upcoming feature change then you do so at your own risk.
