    Hi Tigzy:

    Thanks for the fix.

I am testing the latest UCheck Free Portable BETA v5.0.5.0 offered 14-Nov-2023 in post # 973, and I can confirm that the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of RevoUn.exe for Revo Uninstaller Free Portable v2.4.5 are now both listed under my Revo Uninstaller folder.

Being able to sort folder names in the FILE column is also a huge improvement.

    Hi there,
    Just a quick deeper dive:

When I say that a program cannot be seen as Installed and also Portable, I mean this:

Let's take as example the "Agent Ransack" program, which is installed (so normal installation process as it's not portable) in the C:\Programs Added\ directory.
Its path will then be C:\Added Programs\Agent Ransack\AgentRansack.exe and in this dir it is alone (no other programs).

That's why the question was: why it is reported both in the "Installed" and "Portable" tabs ? In other terms seems that for the majority of the programs Ucheck has two separate research processes and the one related to portable programs does not take into account what has already been found by the first

    Thanks
P.s: in the meantime I've loaded in Dropbox the file you were waiting for

"C:\Programs Added" or "C:\Added Programs" are not standard directories where UCheck would expect installed applications to be...
    Do you mean "C:\Program Files" or "C:\Program Files (x86)" ? ;)

I like UCheck so far but wondered if install files can be placed in %USERPROFILE%\Downloads or a custom definded folder please?

Well, if it's installed (meaning it has an "Uninstall" registry key in Windows) it's not portable. So, it's your responsibility to not add C:\Added Programs to your monitored folders...

Do you mean downloaded installers ? They are in %tmp% and removed after installation is finished.

We are adding some filtering for portable apps.

    Hi there,
of course are not standard directories. The way I structure my PC's is always the same. Besides:
    C:\Windows
    C:\Program Files
    C:\Program Files (x86)

that are the standard directories, I always add a third directory called
    C:\Program Added
to separate all the programs that I add in a second stage to extend Windows functionalities without messing up the "standard" programs and services.

Like SUMo, UCheck offers the possibility to scan custom folders and this is how I get my status, both in the first and second version of UCheck.

    Just to clarify.
    UCheck doesn't look into Program Files specifically, it looks into Uninstall registry key;
It doesn't matter where you have installed your programs, sometimes you can even specify different installation directory.

However, if you choose to INSTALL (meaning launch installer, and specify this dir) a program into C:/my_install/foo_program, then this should be considered as an installation dir only, not portable.
I'd suggest to then create another directory C:/my_portable where you will store portable files only.

Yes, that was the logic consequence, so is what I've already done

    Cattura.PNG

At this point I only have 2 programs missing from my software collection (plus two more that I will be giving up anyway).
One of these missing ones (DNS Jumper) has an update available which, when will be eventually added, may give indications on the correct detection by UCheck. I won't update it for the time being.

As mentioned previously, I believe everything is on the right track.
Great work from you and everyone who helps you in this process.
    Salut

The sort order on the Installed column in the new Portable tab is incorrect. Clicking on the Installed column heading sorts the list alphabetically (type text) when it should be sorted by type date. Also note that the date format is inconsistent between the Installed and the Portable tabs.

Thanks to everyone that submitted their portable files. It was very helpful to filter out.

    Hi Tigzy,

I have been busy for a while, so I don't know if this was already discussed, but are you planning to add a refresh results button? I had two programs pending to be updated, and I updated them manually and wanted to refresh the results instead of run a new scan to make them go away from the list.

Also, I accidentally clicked on the update icon (I thought this was the refresh button since the icon was similar) and uCheck started to download the selected update. Since I didn't notice an abort button, I closed the program to interrupt the process. Then I cleaned the %temp% folder, since it seems the installed was downloaded there.

So may wish is you to add a refresh and abort update button if possible and if they aren't already in the program. Thanks for your improvements so far. I will try to send you my portable programs list, but as a malware removal expert, it is a huge one. So I will try to filter it first a bit.

    Best regards.

Two things, like noticed above, the default sort order for Portable is Z->A instead of A->Z
And would it be possible to get "Showing <number>/<number> also working on the Portable tab, it now only shows the Installed counters.

I also support this request. I like to keep the download for sync to other laptops.

Hey :) If you do "Update", you should find an "Abort" button in the same list
No plan to add a "Refresh" button, however we'll add a version verify to validate the installation is OK. Green status = UPDATED.

You should look at the "Cache" feature :)

    @Tigzy

    Hi there,
a very basic question: is Portable program detection already operational?

To do a test I loaded an old version of BleachBit (4.4.2) as well as the new version (4.6.0.0) among the portable programs as highlighted in the picture.

    Cattura.PNG

    There was no detection.
    Thanks

No it's not. I first want to make sure the filters are working properly before adding garbage on server-side.
That should come soon, next week.

Either I'm really dumb, or I'm missing something. To me, ucheck seems pointless as it doesn't really do anything. After clicking scan, I'm presented with a list of software that needs to be updated. Great. However, I can't actually update anything. Not one in the 15 were updatable. I've checked the box next to every app and still the update option is greyed out. Why? Everything I have is seen as community data and cannot be updated automatically? Why? That's the point of this program, is it not? If this isn't going to do anything, why do I need it?

Looks like the "Skip this update" now now longer removes the entry from the list.
It is added to the exclusions however
The "Updates" counter on the button left also is not decreasing when applying the "Skip this update" action
    (running portable latest)

On the portables tab I have one entry that looks strange. All the others have a "detail" line showing the name version, installed date, etc. The last one in my list is XanaNews which doesn't have this. Just wondered why XanaNews doesn't have this line. Not a big problem as XanaNews isn't being updated anymore anyway. Just curious.
