In an older post it was already mentioned that this link only opens a webbrowser. I don't know if there are plans to change this behaviour but in my opinion it can be removed if this will be the only funtion...

Yes I have to figure out why some machines don't have a default browser's search page.
Can you tell me if you have this key in the registry ?
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Internet Explorer\\SearchScopes|DefaultScope (GUID)
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Internet Explorer\\SearchScopes\\(GUID)|URL

No we can't, sorry. If we do that, people will complain of the change :)
It stays in the tray because of scheduled scans and notifications.

Yes, this is your default search engine from EDGE. If you need to change that for something else, you can do it in EDGE.
That's the easiest way for us to pick a system default search engine URL. Parsing Chrome / Firefox (or whatever web browser) config would be a nightmare.

EDIT: Plus the EDGE settings for search engine is nice and easy to modify:

I think people expect that this link will open the website where the update can be downloaded and not just the default homepage ;)

This is only for installed version I think? Portable closes immediately!

As I said (some pages ago) we don't have this information with Community updates. Since there's no info, the only way is to open search page with the program's name. It spares some typing.
If you do the same with a supported program it'll open the official download page

You need to update to 5.0.1, this is a crash that is now fixed

I am running on 5.0.1 portable but clicking on X still closes the program immediately... :thumbd:

For me it just opens my default search page (Google). It's not searching for the program's name. Default browser is Google Chrome.

If you can't do it that's okay, but I was thinking of having an option in settings to toggle it on or off, so by default the behaviour wouldn't be changed.

If you use the portable version it doesn't stay in tray ;)

Could you tell me what's in those keys ?
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Internet Explorer\\SearchScopes|DefaultScope (GUID)
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Internet Explorer\\SearchScopes\\(GUID)|URL

    I don't have this entry

    EDIT:

For supported programs the correct website is opened, community opens just default search page

I forgot to mention that my default browser is Firefox with DuckDuckGo as search engine...

But why a search page and not the editor's ?
Sorry if it has been mentioned previously...

For now it's way too complicated to extract all web browsers' search engines. We know EDGE is installed by default, it maximizes the chances to find this information.
So the goal is is to get EDGE's default search URL, and open this url with the default browser.

Is there a way for Community detection's to prevent it uploading some specific applications that one would not like to share with the community because it doesn't make sense and/or would be something private?
Currently the "Exclude" function still uploads the application detection details, and for this to work you'll probably need to populate first, then let the user review what to share, and then upload to the server(s).

    Hi Tigzy:

My UCheck Free Portable v5.0.1.0 no longer crashes when I click on an Open Website link for my Community (grey) apps on the Updates tab but nothing happens (i.e., neither Firefox or MS Edge open). Firefox is my default browser and my default search engine at Settings | Search | Default Search Engine is Google Canada (google.ca).

I temporarily changed my default search engine to Bing and Firefox does not launch when I click on an Open Website link on the Updates tab.

Firefox 118_0_2 Settings Search Default Search Engine Google_com 18 Oct 2023.png

When I check HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes I have a registry value for DefaultScope but not for URL.

Win 10 Pro v22H2 Registry HKCU Internet Explorer SearchScope 18 Oct 2023.png

I don't use MS Edge often, but my default search engine for the address bar is Google Canada (google.ca) which is a custom search engine that I added at Settings | Privacy, Search and Services | Services | Address Bar and Search | Manage Search Engines (edge://settings/searchEngines) and set as my default search engine.

I temporarily changed my default search engine to the recommended Bing and MS Edge does not launch when I click on an Open Website link on the Updates tab.

MS Edge v118_0_2088_46 Settings Search Default Address Bar Search Engine Google_ca 18 Oct 2023.png

My MS Edge sidebar is disabled (Settings | Sidebar | Customize Sidebar | Always Show Sidebar | OFF) and anything related to Bing Chat at Settings | Sidebar | Bing Chat is also disabled.

    Official communication on the way.
We have received a lot of "complaints" (it's rather misunderstanding to me) from old users about Community updates, they are not understanding the amount of new updates available.
We may change the way it's enabled by default in a next update. It's not fixed yet, but after an update Community setting may be OFF by default. Just re-enable if you use it.

Introducing Community Updates | UCheck • Adlice Software

EDIT: We'll communicate about this throuh our channel, and see if the misunderstanding lowers or still grows and take action accordingly.

Hopefully this is fixed in 5.02, it's building and will be shipping in a couple hours.
