    That is done via a mapping, server side. We have control on it using a list of Regexes
    EDIT: XnView should be fixed in a minute.

    Hi @ Tigzy:

    I am not certain if this has already been reported, but once I exclude a Community app from the Installed tab I am unable to remove that exclusion from the Installed tab and must delete the program at History & Settings | Settings | Exclusions.

    For example, when I run UCheck Free Portable v5.0.0.0 with Administrator rights, I am able to exclude the Mozilla Maintenance Service from the Installed tab and it reports that the exclusion was successful.

    UCheck 5_0_0 Installed Community Apps Before Exclusion 16 Oct 2023.png

    If I close and re-launch UCheck it correctly shows that Mozilla Maintenance Service is excluded [E]. If I now choose Remove From Exclusions it then reports "Exclusions was Removed with Success" and the [E] tag disappears as expected, but Mozilla Maintenance Service is not deleted from History & Settings | Settings | Exclusions....

    UCheck 5_0_0 Installed Community Apps Live Exclude Mozilla Maintenance Service 16 Oct 2023.png

    UCheck 5_0_0 Installed Community Apps Live Exclusion Removed with Success 16 Oct 2023.png

    UCheck 5_0_0 Installed Community Apps E Tag Disappears After Exclusion Removed 16 Oct 2023.png

    UCheck 5_0_0 Settings Exclusions Mozilla Maintenance Service Still Excluded 16 Oct 2023.png

    ... and when UCheck is re-launched Mozilla Maintenance Service is once again displayed as an Excluded app. The only way I can stop Mozilla Maintenance Service from appearing as an Excluded app is to go to History & Settings | Settings | Exclusions and manually delete it there.

    Hi @Tigzy :

    All my Unsupported apps (no highlight) are currently reported on the Installed panel as up-to-date (OUTDATED = NO) when I know that is not correct. If you don't want to remove Unsupported apps from the Installed panel then it would be preferable if all Unsupported apps with a missing LATEST version had OUTDATED = "UNKNOWN" so users aren't misled into thinking that all these apps are up-to-date.

    UCheck v5_0_0_0 Unsupported Apps All Reported as Up-to-Date 16 Oct 203.png

    Removing the Unsupported apps (no highlight) from the Installed panel and displaying ALL installed software [i.e., together with Compatible (purple) and Community (grey) installed programs] on a new Uninstall panel that does not have a LATEST or OUTDATED column (i.e., just like Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features) would solve this problem and still allow users to uninstall software from the UCheck interface.

    Ok so it's just a matter of semantic. No should be blank for unsupported.
    Understood.
    I still think it's better to fix the data rather than duplicating it...

    Sorry to keep asking about this, but I'm still confused.

    Some entries on the installed tab have a white background and some a gray background. I believe the gray background is for community programs and the white is for unsupported programs. What is the difference?

    Why are the unsupported not considered community programs? Why are the community not just called unsupported?

    Thanks,

    First of all, I am very impressed about the detection after re-enabling community list :thumb:
    It even detects WSL apps I have sideloaded, very nice :cool:
    Some finetuning needed with BETA versions and wrong version numbers that are not available for download.
    But overall UCheck is on a good way! Thanks a lot!

    BTW... Clicking "Open Website" kills/closes UCheck (At least the portable version).

    @Tigzy,

    It looks like the problem I had reported earlier about excluding community programs is working fine now. Thanks for the fix.

    There is still no option in the right click context menu to exclude unsupported programs. Any ideas on when that might be available.

    Also a question. Didn't there used to be a way to ignore (exclude) and update, but not the entire program? Now I only see an option to "exclude software".

    Thanks,
    Bill

    Hi all.
    I'm new to the forum but I've been following you all for a few weeks as per Kyle's advice (I'm also a SUMo user). I am glad to see the progress of UCheck and I thank Tigzy for his patience and willingness to listen.

    As a contribution in this testing phase; here's what I checked now:

    HiBit Uninstaller
    Installed 3.1.62.100 3.1.62. Available 3.1.62.200 --> Detection wrong (beta?)
    Kodi
    Installed 20.2.0.0 Available 20.90.301.0 --> Detection wrong (beta?)
    Glary Utilities
    Installed 5.211.0.240 Available 5.212.0.241 --> Not detected
    Google Chrome
    Installed 118.0.5993.70 Available 117.0.5938.15 --> Error
    ScummVM (64 bits)
    Software not detected even in the application protfolio.

    There are some software that might be worth making recognizable to UCheck:
    miMind
    free multi-platform mind mapping https://mimind.cryptobees.com/downloads-win.html
    Tor Browser
    Wintoys (Miscosoft app store)

    As far as I understand, the analysis on portable software will happen in the next period,
    so I will wait for the right time.

    Thank you also for an help about how to add images to posts.
    Thanks in advance

    It's working well. It now finds 41 updates, while SUMo finds 27.

    Gave UCheck another try. For me it found more than 10 updates more than SUMo.

    Only 1 was real though; the others were all false (wrong in several ways).

    Going on with the tests, there are a couple of things I would like to point out:

    Exclusions
    Based on the Java case as an example, on my machine there are 2 versions:
    * Java 7 Update 75 (64-bit) held for compatibility reasons
    * Java 8 Update 381 (64-bit) latest version.
    If I try to exclude only Java 7 from the lists of Installed programs (right click, Exclude program) the result is that both versions of Java are excluded, which in my opinion is not appropriate. I would suggest performing exclusions from each single entry in the list of installed programs

    Last thing, I would suggest making recognizable by Ucheck also
    Wise Registry Cleaner

    You probably have the old installed version and downloaded the new one as portable ? That's one guess.

    Fixed in next version, we'll use the full name instead of mapping ID

    Some remarks:

    upload_2023-10-17_10-13-11.png

    And it would be nice to have the option "Skip this Update", not only "Exclude Software"

    Yes, but as I said earlier this is automated data (there's a disclaimer on the warning icon tooltip). We cannot spend time on fixing incorrect community data one by one. As of today, there's around 30 000 software in the database...

    Let's see if it's possible.

    Seriously, though... any of you dudes and chicas here ever heard of or gave an app called "Patch My PC" a spin around the block? There's a nifty little website called "Softpedia" that peddles both of these apps with #'s of each app download, reviewer ratings, and overall customer satisfaction as expressed by a one through 5 star opinion rating. Granted, "Softpedia" is only one source and a conglomeration of mere opinions. But at the end of the day... seriously, though?

    Tigzy,

    The following are some misc. comments on v5.0.0.0.

    Update Tab
    (see attached screenshot)

    If the Company website link on any one of the community programs updates is clicked, the UCheck app aborts. That should be fixed by having these links do nothing or open a web search for the identified program update or company’s support site.

    Although the “Microsoft” display filter is not checked, Microsoft apps are still displayed on the Update tab in the screenshot.

    The identified PowerShell update (7.4.6.0) is a beta version; 7.3.6.0 is the latest release. Do you have an algorithm for trying to distinguish between beta and production releases based on user counts?

    Installed Tab (see attached screenshot)

    Suggest using a different color for portable programs, such as tan or light green. The current red/pink stands out like a sore thumb and is typically used to alert a user of a problem. Purple for compatible program could be interpreted to mean that compatible installed programs get the full royal treatment in UCheck, while tan or green denotes community installed programs are treated like peasants.

    It does not make much sense to be able to sort on “Version” or “Latest” column as currently implemented. It would be nice if the “Outdated” column could be reduced in width or eliminated as a separate column entirely while still providing its sort capability. For example, where the program is currently shown as not outdated, use the word “Same” in the “Latest” column rather than the version number. This would eliminate clutter and also avoid user confusion or concern in cases of insignificant differences between the installed and latest version number, such as different formats or where the displayed “Latest” version number is less than the Installed version as illustrated in the case of Brave in the screenshot. This would still allow sorting on the “Latest” column to separate entries which have updates and those which do not. Where the “Latest” version is not the same, it might also be useful to color the cell (e.g., yellow) to visually highlight the difference and possible need for an update.

    For entries in the Location column, add the capability to open the location in Windows Explorer.

    Other

    User insight into the database is a desirable feature. I would suggest replicating SUMo’s capability to display (1) the versions and user counts for a particular program and (2) the list of programs from a particular company with their current version number and the total user count for each. The ability to list the top 100 programs by total user count would also be interesting. Adding an (M out of N) user count for the suggested version update on the Update tab would also be useful.

    The tooltip for the UCheck background service tray app displays “UCheck Free” although the user has purchased a “UCheck Premium” license as indicated on the title bar of the window of the main GUI.

    Add them to exclusions.
    EDIT: I mean for now. We'll see but for now there's no server-side UI to deal with such errors. Later maybe we'll add ability to remove certain versions (un-promote). That's one click and we can do it for the most problematic ones.

    Few minor feedbacks on 14 updates available for me on Ucheck:

    7 updates
    Perfect detection and update

    1 update
    Google Chrome: detection and update ok - the version listed within “Updates” was 32 bit instead of 64 bits

    6 updates to be checked
    paint.net = detection OK - path unknown
    Mozilla maintenance Service = detection OK - path unknown
    Any Video Converter = detection OK - path unknown
    Glary Utilities = detection OK - path unknown
    HiBit Uninstaller = detection wrong - No update available (beta?)
    Kodi = detection wrong – No update available

    For the programs with path unknown: these programs (excluding Mozilla maintenance) are installed in a directory with many other programs that were good for UCheck recognition.
    This directory is already included in Settings/Custom Locations.

    UCheck is developing nicely, I particularly live the community list. One suggestion/improvement on community list updates would be option to not only exclude software as an action but to ignore a specific update. This would be useful if a developer is now selling a new version of a paid program (say v3) but they're still providing security options on their old v2 software.
