Not seeing it on my desktop. I'll check the PCs at work when I get there.

---Nothing I see so far at work. I guess you just got lucky. Or whatever you want to call it.

This latest Windows update for W11 broke the Pdf reading function in Edge browser for me. Anyone else seeing this?

No problem here. Just tested it with a HP laptop manual. Edge opened it and also asked if I wanted to set it as default (which I ignored)
    Sumatra is my default.
This is on my Win 10 machine.

    Thanks.
I went back to before the update, and updated only Edge, worked fine. Implemented the update and got this broken functionality - again.

I can not find anything on the net either so, maybe i have a compatibility issue.

All today's updates for Win 10 and Win 11 went in okay (although Win 10 took a little time configuring)

Included MSRT, Cumulatives and .Net framework.

Installed all of the Windows 11 updates that were available (MSRT, Cumulative update, 2 .NET updates). Rebooted my laptop. Logged on. Desktop froze. Had to reboot again to get anything to respond. Seems ok at this point.

Thanks for the info everyone. I may just wait a bit before I approve the updates here at work.

currently beta, my taskbar told me so. i deactivated it by GPO. Copilot is AI, currently its rather dumb for facts or persons, but it can paint images. still interested?

No I am not interested in it at all. Just wanted to be sure that my end users will not end up getting it. Thanks.

Regular users won't be seeing it soon. Blocking it with GPO as mentioned above should take care of it.

Yeah that is what I will plan on doing. It looks like maybe next month or December it will drop?

On my W10 Home, it took an uncharacteristic half hour (slow computer, fast SSD). When it finally finished, I was greeted with a huge search bar added to the taskbar and a new mini-browser that looked like the old Real Player adware, complete with celebrity "news." It asked if I wanted to keep it (by clicking a dark blue button) or uninstall the monstrosity (a pale gray button). Thankfully, it vanished as soon as I clicked the latter.

I haven't seen anything about this reported at GHacks, The Reg, or Born City when I last checked a few hours ago. I'm not in the Insider Program and my hardware doesn't support W11. I ran a virus scan just to make sure the system is OK. I had downloaded the CU directly from the Widows Catalog and verified the signature before I ran it.

I got the update today as well, no problems with it here. I had already disabled the Copilot Preview with a registry edit. I also disabled the Bing chat gpt garbage and all of the other unwanted bloat that I could find. I am not in the least bit interested in any of it. I am trying to stay on Windows but if they force any more unwanted junk on me I may go to Linux Mint full time. I see this and the upcoming main 23H2 update as the final straw between me and Microsoft. I am getting real tired of having to tweak or turn off this or that "feature" in Windows just to be able to use my laptop.

Pretty long installation before and after reboot and cleaning but eventually completed successfully on my Win 10. The search bar disabled right away. Nothing else new appeared.

Windows 10 Pro hung on my system after the computer was left idle a few hours. My only option was to do a hard shutdown. It also took quite a long time to install. I've dealt with this many times over the last few years. I wish Microsoft could get it right for a change. It takes way too long to reconfigure my system to have to reinstall Windows every time this happens. If it wasn't for work I would only use Linux instead.

On Win 10 Pro I did the updates and rebooted. No issues. Machine was then turned off overnight.
This morning after boot desktop was frozen and Emsisoft wasn't running.
All okay after a hard reset.

Since the MS update fiasco a few months ago, I got used to disconnecting my computer from all peripherals after downloading before installing updates and no problems since ... knocking on wood.

I have a 5 bay Orico network attached storage device attached to my computer. I actually had it unattached when I updated this time, so it should not be what caused the problem. I think I may have discovered the problem. I'm going to try disabling Global C-State Control in UEFI and see if that works. I never knew about this setting in UEFI until now. I think it could be the problem. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...ew-hours/f75668c0-ecb2-466f-bc56-9e051a4a504f

    @Cutting_Edgetech
It didn't cause my freeze as I don't have UEFI on this machine

Apparently Global C-State Control was not the problem. My UEFI does not even have that setting, so I guess AMD removed that feature. I can't find anything in UEFI that has replaced it either. A new version of UEFI has come out, but updating UEFI in the past has never solved the problem.
