Thanks to Wilders I have W11 installed. Thank you Wilders.

Now I want to make my newly installed W11P (ThinkPad T540p Nov 2013) as much like (my) W7P (ThinkPad
    E540 ~2013)as possible.

So far I've changed double click to single click. M$ log in with Local Acct (Rufus).

Is it safe to uninstall Edge & the M$ Store? I can Google how to. But want to know if it's safe.

I can't stand the tiles? is it? And where is the Start Menu?

I'll be adding more W11 annoyances (to me) & asking if it's safe to change & maybe how to change.

Any suggestions to make it more like W7 appreciated. I got to get rid of Windows Defender & it's Mother May I prompts.

Not free but there are always programs like Windowblinds and Start 11. There are probably free alternatives if you are interested in using 3rd party tools to customize your OS.
I don't know that I would uninstall the store. Several built in apps use it to update. But you may not care. That said you could just unpin the icon, let it do updates in the background, and just never open it.

    in short: not possible.
and this is from my experienced view to windows 8, 10 and 11.

system control is going to be replaced in many places in settings, you are led to settings
explorer is different, similar, but not the same.
start menu is a lot more different than windows 10, i use StartAllback (paid, 1 license for 3 computers)
(hint: startisback is only for win10)
no rounded corners? need patch and gets resetted each big update. pointless. (explorerpatcher)
want no edge? too bad, its vital for windows.
ms edge redirect? possible but can fail at all and have side effects.

the more you tweak the more you push it to death.

i will propose you a bad experience because your hardware is so damn slow, and old, not win11 compatible, i already told you. you wont have fun using w11 on your machine. and defender will be only a very minor problem for you.

    W11 is running WELL.

It only has 8GB of RAM too. I'm very happy with Open Shell preview/beta. With Open Shell (a start menu replacement) everything for me is 10x easier. I moved over the Icons to the left on the TaskBar. Uninstalled OneDrive. Once I customize Vivaldi Browser I could move over full time. One of the next things I want to do is uninstall Cortana. I was surprised W11P recognized my T540p Dolby program & installed the latest Dolby available.

Windows 11 is noticably faster than Windows 10. The lack of official compatibility does not matter at all, since Windows 11 does not actually require a recent model CPU, or TPM 2.0 to run. These are just limits implemented by the Windows 11 installer. Windows 11 itself basically has the same system requirements as Windows 10, aside from no longer supporting 32 bit CPUs.

    Obviously faster than Windows .

Windows . is a new classified Windows that Microsoft has developed especially for @roger_m. It runs slower than any other OS on the planet.

I've tweaked my W11P so it's almost the same as my W7P. Mostly what I have left is copying my data/documents/downloads to W11P. I don't know if I should bother searching for & turning off all/most/some of the telemetry of W11.

    Any suggestions?

My mate tries to make recent Windows OS look like Win95 as that's his favourite.

I use Start11, much better than StarAllBack and allows you to ungroup taskbar items

thats not the problem, although true. his hardware (thinkpad) is the problem.

i had win10 running on an very old AGP machine with only 2gigs, that was no fun. a ten year old laptop is not the same as a ten year old desktop pc with intel dual core, both not even close to an i5 cpu.

about start10/start11, both is stardock, i had stardock software on xp, it was very nosy and it puts very hidden checkmarks into my windows, so i avoid stardock wherever i can.

I use Open-Shell Beta. Perfect Start Menu for me. It's Freeware.

My wife's laptop has a ten year old third gen i5-3230m CPU. It's running Windows 10 (with a SSD) and performance is good.

My wife's former desktop has an i5-2400 CPU. Second generation CPU. It's now my MBR test computer. The SSD has both Win10 and Win11. Also Linux Mint and a few WinPE. All OS run in a very acceptable fashion. 8 GB of RAM.

According to Lenovo, the ThinkPad T540p came with an i5, or i7 CPU.
