    Windows 10
C (system) and D (data) partitions
    EaseUS Todo Workstation Backup
Created a System Backup with EaseUS on the D (data) partition. Unfortunately, I don't have a backup of this system on an external disk.

Windows updated, and after the system restart, it got stuck on "Windows is getting ready" for 4 hours, so I shut down the system. I restarted the system and tried to restore it with the EaseUS boot menu. EaseUS started the restore process and stated file system errors. Now when I start the system, it directly shows Automatic Repair, Diagnosing PC, and then Repair Failed. I tried EaseUS Bootable Media, and there was no backup task on the interface. I used "browse" to restore the image, but it shows "there is not enough space in the target destination" when I select the destination.

    Need your help. Thank you.

    khanyash,

Has the Win10 partition been resized smaller and a following RE partition created?

I tried the fix boot feature in Macrium bootable. The system is up and running. The Windows Update is installing KB5026361 and is stuck at 20%. I disabled Windows Update in Services and Group Policy, but Windows Update is still showing Installing - 20%. If I shut down or restart the system, it will again get stuck on "Windows is getting ready". The system is running slow too.

If you don't have a backup, you have no other option but only to boot from a DVD or USB and back up your files. It doesn't matter where, whether to D partition or external media or at all to cloud. If necessary, delete unnecessary files to free up space - in case there is a lack of space. And then format C drive and do a new clean Windows installation and then restore everything else.
This is the only way You have to go.

Added after your addition info what you did with Macrium...
If so, you have nothing to fix there.
In the future, make sure that your Windows is always 100% in order before you start installing updates, otherwise the same situation will happen again.

How about tweaking.com Windows Repair - then chose fix Windows Update.

I managed to stop and hide Windows Update KB5026361. chkdsk found no errors. EaseUS full backup image check detected no issues. sfc /scannow found errors but couldn't repair them. I want to restore to the EaseUS full backup image, but the restore operation detects file system errors and stops. I guess the EaseUS restore operation should work after fixing the SFC scan errors. I tried the DISM command, but it too couldn't fix the issue. Should I do an in-place upgrade to fix the errors and then restore to the EaseUS full image?

If your partition is like this...

    [**--***--]

    * is sectors in use. - is free space.

You then create an image. Now you add/remove data to that partition and maybe a few viruses too. It now looks like this...

    [**-****-*]

When you restore the image it will look like this.

    [**--***--]

Whatever changes you made since the image was created will be gone. The viruses will be gone.

Some utilities have an option to ignore file system errors during restore, check and see if yours has one.

Also if an error code was displayed you can search the following two links to discover the exact cause of the error:

    https://www.easeus.com/support/knowledge-base/error-codes-list-1.html
    https://www.easeus.com/support/knowledge-base/error-codes-list-2.html

I would also recommend using a partition manager to figure out whats going on with your OS partition, and resolve the file system error. You can use EaseUS's own free partition manager.

    https://www.easeus.com/partition-manager/epm-free.html

    Thank you for your help.

I will do a clean install. The system has Win 10/11 digital activation. Its processor, the Intel Core i5-7200U CPU @ 2.50GHz, is unsupported for Win 11. Should I go with 10 or 11?

Perhaps you could install Windows 11 and if you don't like it go back to Windows 10. You can create a bootable Windows 11 installation flash drive to install it on unsupported hardware, using Rufus. Just bear in mind, that while you will get all the regular Windows Updates, you will need to manually download the yearly feature updates to new builds.

Would Win 11 run well on an Intel Core i5-7200U CPU @ 2.50GHz? The system has 8GB RAM and 1TB HDD.

Yes, as it's faster than Windows 10.

My wife has 8 GB RAM, i5-2400 CPU and Win11

Win11 runs fine on her SSD but it was a disaster when on a HDD.

Does imaging software require no disk errors and no Windows file integrity violations to perform the restore operation?

I don't think so. The target partition is deleted and the sectors in use are restored.

Why don't you delete the target partitions and try a restore to Free Space. If it doesn't work, install Win11.

I first get "file system" errors and then the "not enough space" issue on another try. Could it be that the EaseUS image is damaged? Even though the full image check found no errors.

I'll try the EaseUS restore after the Windows 11 upgrade (to verify the digital license) to verify the EaseUS image has no errors, as the EaseUS "check image" stated.

I performed the Win 11 upgrade. chkdsk found no errors, and sfc /scannow fixed the detected issues. I tried the EaseUS restore, and the outcome was the same as mentioned in my first post. I don't know if the EaseUS image is proper or not, as its "check image" detected no errors and I could mount it.

How reliable is Aomei Backupper Pro? I have lifetime upgrade licenses.

I have licenses for both EaseUS and Aomei which i do not use. I try them once or twice a year to see if the have become more dependable then they where when i first tried them. Many years ago. Out of 5 tests, backing up and restore, they usually fail 1, sometimes 2 times, still.

Some will say they are good, some bad, that means they are unreliable.
I stay away from them so i do not get rashes out of the nervosity every time i shall restore with them in some critical situation.

I'll install Hasleo Backup Suite, as it has been reliable and fast in the tests on my system.

As for many others, which i know that you know. If it was not for the fact that i have a license for IFW, i would install HBS because of the mentioned fact and that it has been reliable also for me.
