    Hi
do you trust of home banking using windows 10 or macos ?
about windows o macos , are the many freeware or open source that could be dangerous or many chrome extensions

I would install a linux distro , just for the home banking , not ubuntu

so would you like to share your opinion ? If you use a clean install of windows or macos without many programs or do you like a linux distro with 1 broswer
many linux distros do need few disk space

    thanks

What do mean by home banking? Keeping track of money spent, income etc aka budgeting?
Or do you mean making actual transactions?

    In both cases: yes.

I do online banking in a Sandboxed browser with no other tabs open on Win 10.
My bank has me enter different configurations of my 'special' password each time (and this is after I have signed in using a username and a password)
Then I have to accept a phone call with a number to input online.

    Then I can bank.
    I feel reasonably safe.

Since the banks in my country force you to use an app or physical tan generator to generate the tans (where you see which amount will go to which account number) and there are also dedicated programs just for banking I consider it pretty safe.

I've been doing online banking in the Firefox browser (formerly Netscape Navigator) for over 20 years and have never had any problems. I use an authenticator that is not connected to the internet to log in to the bank and authorize transactions.

    hi
my bank does offer pin , or fingerprint or an usb key
but there are so many malware around , often hidden in safe application , a linux distro ,with only a browser should be ok and more safe , at least is what i guess
    thanks

For me, it is more convenient to use some dedicated apps in my Android smartphone.

I trust online banking more than I do PayPal. Now if someone wants to add money to my account I'm fine with that... but I'm not giving them my info to do it. I did not win the lottery in a country for which I did not buy a ticket.

"I trust online banking more than I do PayPal" and online credit card transactions.
But with online banking there's a lot more at stake.
My bank uses 2FA / SMS authentication.
    I'm reasonably comfortable.

    hi
ok , but for you the operation system is not relevant
don't you think that a clean install of a linux distro with only a browser could be more safe?

A Linux boot disk would probably be even more safe.

Yeah, I do online banking now, b/c the rates for my dumb phone went up 300%. So I use Sandboxie also, let it clear the browser after every session and don't have other tabs open either.

Not quite as secure-feeling as using an offline method but it's the best I can do right now.

I wouldn't have any problems banking online with Windows 10 from home, except nowadays I use Linux.

As @xxJackxx mentions, a Linux boot disk would be a great choice as well, and also those who use Sandboxie.

Probably another safe method would be to use a dedicated Chrome-based browser for banking, block Javascript, and only allow the bank's domains. For example:

I have 4 banks + paypal and I do not overthink it, I just use it as it is, I have not really used cash in about 5 years. Unless you are prone to phishing (basically being dumb) or you are a millionaire (targeted), I would not worry about it.

Same over here, in The Netherlands most banks have provided a hardware authenticator for the last 20 years or so, I never had a problem and it's not easy to bypass this type of 2FA for malware. Of course you do need to make sure that you don't provide the 2FA code on a fake banking page.
