It is when nothing much has supposedly changed, and it's almost doubled in size. Call me suspicious, but, that's not normal. Particularly for a security product! I'd like to hear from developer's... P.S. You want to see optimized coding - check out Elite, Rev's, etc.from BBC Micro day's. Modern coder's have it easy + are lazy! P.P.S. Even if they're not lazy - I'd be interested in what made such a massive increase in size ?
No, you're right to be alert about this. But in this case I believe the developer may have made a couple of changes since he discontinued the SS Firewall.
Sure, they did remove firewall - shouldn't that make it lighter, not heavier but, if you check the pic's of un-packed Firewall version compared to new non-firewall version - the new "lighter" version is almost 2x the size. Unless they embedded a highly in-compressible asset in the EXE (JPEG or video) - I'd like to know why it's increased by such a big margin - and, what is this massive asset + why the increase ?
From what I was told, there is a major new version coming soon. I recently got a premium lifetime license by trading in my firewall lifetime license. This is what helpdesk@spyshelter.com said. "Meanwhile we're working on a massive update to SpyShelter that will be out this summer and it's a free upgrade for you."
Wow, this sounds quite exciting if they are really planning to develop a major new version. Perhaps they will also change the GUI and add more powerful protection, who knows.
I get this in Firefox: Spoiler: nope And checking one of those sites that checks if a site is down or if it's just you: Spoiler Hmmm. Could be maintenance or something else temporarily?
@plat thank you. I hope it's only temporary.... I'm still curious about the 'massive update', they were planning to release.
It seems to be back up again, here in Brooklyn NY, USA. https://www.spyshelter.com/blog/eu-usa-spyshelter/
Me too in my post #379 above. In your #380 reply, didn't that oversized image satisfy your curiosity? Still holding my breath, BTW. Anyhow, that we are all all over that massive update is a tribute to value Wilders presents to teh community!
I haven't heard anything back from them yet. I'm still waiting for a beta version to be released to test.
Word on the street is that they are planning to release a new SS beta version in December 2023. I do hope it will have exciting new features.
Rasheed, you should contact them and see if they can have you added to a list of testers. At the end of October, I was informed that the BETA release will be out in approximately 30 days... so I'm also looking forward to it as well.
Yes, I will participate in the beta test for sure, but only if SS can run on my Win 10 1909 machine of course. But it does sound kinda worrying that they already told you back in October a new version was coming up. But perhaps they are also busy with developing GlassWire. So let's give them the benefit of the doubt.
I have glassware and spyshelter premium lifetime licences. I sent a message to their e-mail address that I want to join the beta. They sent a message that we added you to the beta.I wish they would release a program called glassware+spyshelter+antivirus : spyglass antivirus.
Thanks for the heads-up. I got on the list and they said "hope to have it out in a few weeks." I informed them I'll be testing it on an Intel E8400/G35/onboard-GPU system with 4GB RAM and a 500GB HDD I built in 2008. Win10 Pro was installed from some I forget what Insider slow ring version ISO, circa 2015, updated every month to its current 22H2. Coexisting primary layers are Glasswire and AppCheck Pro; Defender with hourly sig updates check and Network Realtime Inspection and SmartScreen active . It's what I test everything on before running installation on my production systems. If a program runs on that, it'll run on anything not borked up by NVIDIA or AMD hardwear. As a SpyShelter user since v10, I'm really looking forward to this and hope they don't stray too far from it's core mission.
No way, I don't really like GlassWire. I do believe they shouldn't have removed the firewall features (including network monitor) from SS Premium, such a silly move. But now I'm thinking perhaps they did this because they want to cross sell you GlassWire, so I'm not too happy.
I've been looking forward to this release for a long time! I hope they integrate all of the functionality of ERP into SpyShelter and also allow the user to choose exactly which digital certificates to trust. At the present time SS will allow any .exe file to execute, even if it's unknown and not signed. SS will intercept the actions of the executable if it attempts to do something that SS monitors, but SS will allow the executable to execute. I don't like this behavior. I prefer to only allow .exe files that have been whitelisted by the user and prompt the user for any unknown .exe files. I actually prefer to do the same thing with .dll files that originate from the User-Space, ProgramData, and C:\ (root).
To be honest, I'm not into the anti-exe feature at all. I hope that SS will be more focused on tackling infostealers and advanced malware that use all kinds of code injection techniques.
Same. But it doesn't look like anything is going to get released any time soon. For now, it's just empty promises.
Well, December 2023 isn't over yet. And the reason why I'm not that excited about SS's anti-exe feature is that it would require quite a lot of work to make it work sort of like EXE Radar. It's best that they concentrate on blocking infostealers. That's why I also believe they need to bring back the firewall features (with network monitor) to SS Premium.
