Some two hours ago I noticed something strange on my EIS, using the regular release channel.
It is about the version of the Internet protection module.
Last time I saved the list of modules was on 6 March; now I did that again. And then I compared the two lists (using Beyond Compare).
    On 6 March:
    Internet protection module; 1450; 4-1-2023
    On 9 March:
    Internet protection module; 1449.1; 8-3-2023

    See the difference?
    First I had version 1450. Then I got 1449.1.
What happened? Did they pull 1450? Or an hick-up on one of their update-servers?
I don't know at the moment.

Same here on my ESS ver. 16.0.26 installation.

Only Eset would be able to explain the numbering irregularity. It could just be a screw up on their part.

It's nothing unusual that if a potential issue is discovered in a module, the module is retracted and temporarily replaced with the previous version until the issue is fixed. This has happened many times in the past. No users reported any issues with regard to this. It was discovered by developers and will be fixed in the next module version.

Hey guys, I'm about to take EIS on a trial run. Any setup tips or other related advice?
(I've never had an ESET product).

The default settings are best for most users. Make sure the LiveGrid is activated.

Agreed. Very little reason to change anything. Probably the most hands off product I have ever used. With the least false positives.

FanJ What's your plan for an AV to replace ESET?

Cheers! Glad to have you back.

@xxJackxx You just run ESET with defaults? I always tweak my setup. I have not done or seen any recent tests but I always felt that ESET was a bit weak with defaults. I guess things have changed which is good.

To protect against ransomware, I recommend creating the following HIPS and firewall rules:

    https://support.eset.com/en/kb6119-...siness-products-to-protect-against-ransomware

    https://support.eset.com/en/kb6132-...dpoint-security-to-protect-against-ransomware

For Eset consumer product versions, these rules shouldn't create any problems.

Also note that Eset Smart Security Premium includes auto scanning of downloaded binaries on Eset cloud servers. Scanning is not dependent on MotW status as is Microsoft Defender.

For the last couple of years there seems to be no real reason to change anything. I haven't had any issues.

    Hi Page42,
For now none. I still get definitions and module updates for 16.0.26.0 on Win7; for example I got today:
    Internet protection module; 1453; 10-3-2023

But I'm thinking about the situation, what I will do, what I can afford, etc.
Could take quite some time ...

@itman do you put those rules above the built-in rules?

Assuming you're referring to the firewall rules, just add them at the end of any existing rules you have.

In addition to the above post with additional ESET rules I want to make clear that ESET solutions including enterprise ones (Endpoint) have ransomware protection by default (Ransomware Shield in conjunction with other protection modules).

Yes firewall rules. Wonder why set them below?
Wouldn't they be more effective set at the very most top?

Sub-settings of Detection core to Aggressive but it may produce more FPs.
