Even for free, this would be a deal breaker for me.

So far @Active backup also seems efficient but i forgot to see if it adds the feature of a Boot Menu Option, which i agree with others rounds out features which not every backup solution offers in their FREE category.

    Hi wat0014

According to the Minitool Shadowmaker website you have to upgrade from the Free version to be able to use the media creation tool to create a bootable USB flash drive.

"Tip: MiniTool Bootable Media Builder is available on all registered editions of MiniTool software. For those who are using the Free Edition and Trail Edition, please upgrade to Paid Editions before accessing."

    Thanks @TerryWood for the info,

but when no more security fixes are available for Macrium Reflect free at year's end, I will purchase the Home version.

As far as I can see the free Veeam only has a system backup, not a whole disk/partition backup?
Unlike Macrium, or Hasleo for that matter?

I have several different Windows (10 & 11) instances on my laptop, with separate data partition, and would want to backup the whole disk.

So far Hasleo is a fairly if not most reliable alternative for a free backup solution.

MR 8.0.7279 (last free edition) is working perfectly for me, so I'm sticking with it until it becomes obsolete.

Same. However, I have AOMEI BAckupper Pro installed as well, just in case.

I used MR free edition for a good 2 years before buying the home edition. It is excellent, I also think it is too good to be free. I finally bought the home edition for the blistering speed of incremental backups and restores. I still have the free edition on two computers which I don’t use myself. This is my only gripe with MR, they had a fantastic free edition available, but an expensive paid home single license, one would have to buy 4 licenses to get a reasonable discount… Some people may have 4 important machines at home, but let's face it most home users use one machine at the most...

I think if you have Macrium free you're good for a while.

For other makers, EaseUS or Aomei are what I'd choose. I use EaseUS because on this machine it's a bit faster than Aomei, and I've never had a problem with it. On the other hand, Aomei often has 'deals' where you can get the Pro version for a year.

Aomei Backupper is been a steady performer here on my Windows 8.1s & Windows 10.

It's great PC users have a selection/variety for this particular function be it EaseUS-Hasleo Backup Suite-Macrium-Backupper etc.

Encryption: Yes. Compression = None, Low, Medium, High (% of compression is totally DATA dependent as with any compression scheme)
