I recently installed Bitdefender-Free and it's first scan quarantined a safe program file (i.e., a FP). When I attempt to restore that file Bitdefender says "the system does not have rights to access to the (file's) specified path", prompting me to choose another path? Edit: Problem solved by running BD as administrator, but I don't understand why that was necessary since my user account is an Administrator, and it's the account I used to install BD.
BD is like that. You have to run it as admin to make changes, like restoring that file or deleting old update notifications and warning indications. I run into that often since I use my Standard account for everyday use. I don't know why BD has that rule unless it is done primarily as an extra security measure. Glad to know it's fixed now. Jimmy
@Jimmy9190, that sure seems to be the case, but when reading: Bitdefender Quarantine: How to recover a legitimate file from Quarantine, it says that action requires an administrator account (which is my account type), so this may be a bug.
BD can be like an overprotective helicopter parent sometimes. It wants you to ask permission to make changes or really do anything outside the basic use of the AV. BD puts a lot of effort into protecting your computer and like anything else I guess they can sometimes go too far. That is one reason I think BD Free is better than the paid BD versions, even the low-end BD Antivirus Plus can be pretty domineering. I remember when I tried BD AV Plus out last year it kept pestering me to use their VPN and create different user profiles. BD Free does the least amount of helicoptering. Jimmy
