That version has been in BETA (limited PUBLIC and longer in PRIVATE) since the end of September and no issues that are currently being described were seen during that period. My guess... MicroSloth is at it again OR it's under attack by AVs. Be patient... they'll figure it out.
No problems with the free version of Macrium 8.0.7279 after reboot. The only bug I encountered is that this time I wasn't offered to update the Boot Menu with a new dialog box as usual, but had to click on the Build button. And then I noticed that a new BCD entry (a duplicate one with a different identifier) is created. I had to manually delete it using EasyBCD. Next I opened the Rescue Media Builder again and all was ok (the Build button was greyed-out as it should be after a successfully created entry), but when I clicked the Advanced button to check the settings and closed it, Macrium said that some drivers needs to be updated in the created boot entry. Never happened with previous versions before. I completed the update as instructed and reboot to check if it is working normally and didn't notice any problems with it.
I have a question regarding MR version 8 and Image Guardian. How do I delete old MR image backup folders while Image Guardian is enabled or selected? I have a couple of old folders that contain old image files for computers I no longer own. I'd like to delete these folders off of my external hard drive but Image Guardian is not allowing to delete those folders. I assume that the easiest solution is to temporarily disable image guardian?
That's probably the easiest way... the other way is to use Macrium itself by <right-click>ing "All Folders" under the "Existing Backups" TAB and use the "Folders to Search" option to select your folder full of old images. After this, those images will show up in your "Existing Backups" TAB.
I have a question, if someone can answer: Can you make a backup of a system by just using (free or paid) Macrium v8 WinPE boot disk, if Macrium is not actually installed on the said system? and Can you restore a backup of a system using Macrium v8 WinPE, if Macrium is not actually installed on the system? I know their might be a license issue but does the software actually permit this or does it just block the attempt? I was asked this question, and since I had never done it myself so I was not 100% sure, and I did not want to uninstall Macrium from my system just to test it out. Does anybody know the answer?
Yes, speaking purely in terms of technical capabilities, Rescue Media for all editions of Reflect can perform image backups and restores regardless of whether Reflect is installed on the system you’re working with or contained in the image you’re restoring. You can even perform File & Folder backups and restores within Rescue (unless your Rescue Media is Reflect Free, which doesn’t support that). I’ve done that several times while testing Rescue Media ISOs in virtual machines where I don’t always have Reflect installed in the guest OS.
Thanks for the prompt reply. My initial reaction was also "yes it will work", but then I remembered from many years ago, around 2009-10, when I tried ShadowProtect and it would not let you image a system from boot disk unless ShadowProtect was actually installed on the system. So I thought I should ask, maybe Macrium has something similar in place.
Hey! I can't download WinPE10_1709, also WinPE10_2004, WinPE10_11 via Macrium agent http://updates.macrium.com/reflect/v7/reflectdlfull.exe http://updates.macrium.com/reflect/v8/reflectdlfull.exe When will this download work again?
No, http\https has nothing to do with it. Download Agent is already downloaded. Now it, DA, cannot download WinPE components.
I'm sorry... I installed SHA2 support on my Windows 7 SP1 x64 Pro system (KB4490628+KB4474419-v3 updates), now WinPE10_1609/1709/2004/11 downloads fine via reflectdlfull.exe However, a year ago I did not install SHA2 support, but WinPE10 downloaded fine ... but now the problem is solved. *** It is interesting… The checksums of the pe10_XXX.zip archives with the same name can take on different values, because the archive is formed by the Windows zip archiver after the files are downloaded by the reflectdlfull.exe program, but Windows 7/8/10 versions have different versions of zip archivers ... However, the checksums of the files downloaded by reflectdlfull.exe are identical, i.e. the pe10_XXX.zip archives of the same name received on Windows 7/8/10 are completely identical after unpacking. Thus, the concept of “pe10_XXX.zip archive checksum” is useless...
Glad you figured it out. Mentioning your OS version when you’re running one that’s now over 13 years old is probably a good idea for all problem reports. Windows XP has been effectively unable to get onto the Internet for years now, even if security concerns wouldn’t already keep you from trying that. It has no support for newer crypto and no ability to add it with updates. You can’t even use its IE to download another browser. And all browser vendors stopped providing new versions on XP years ago anyway. Win7 probably isn’t too far behind.
I have Windows 7 SP1 and have no problems with Macrium. My GigaByte Z77HD3 motherboard supports Windows 7/8/10/11 installation, but I only like Windows 7, other systems are aggressive. Perhaps someday I will use Windows 10 21H2 Enterprise G (CMGE V2022-L) - this is a Chinese government variant of the system, the official license and updates from Microsoft; telemetry and spying functions are removed here. https://rutracker.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6185752 https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/get-started/kms-client-activation-keys

….except for the SHA2 issue you just encountered with its download agent. My point is simply that Win7 is at the point where the “it still works fine” concept has developed some cracks. That’s not to say that it’s impossible to continue using, but merely that it’s now worth mentioning that you’re on Win7 when reporting problems and asking for help. If you’d said that upfront, I personally would have thought of the SHA2 issue right away here, because the switch to SSL cert signatures using SHA2 has been a relatively recent change and it did cause some headaches for people still on Win7. So no matter how much anyone insists that Win7 is still fine for them or is at least as good as newer OSes in all the ways that actually matter, it’s simply not the same as newer versions. It’s old enough now that there are additional items to consider when you’re using it — like needing updates to support things that are common now, such as SHA2 (and needing drivers for USB 3.x and NVMe, which have already been other stumbling blocks for Reflect users with Win7 kernel Rescue Media builds).
One of the PC's I make backups of with Macrium Reflect (I have a 4-pack license) is configured to turn off if there's no activity for some time (I think 15 minutes). The last couple of weeks I noticed this meant that the PC turned off immediately after a backup (executed from a script) was verified, before the Pushover notification (last step in the script) could be sent. Today the PC even turned off before the verification completed. How can I configure the PC/Reflect to not turn off while Reflect is busy?
You can use "Advanced Options" in your DEF file and use the SHUTDOWN option... Macrium will do it for you.
Yes, and it works flawlessly. Just don't forget it if you have a scheduled backup you forgot to leave your PC on for and also set it to run on next boot if it was missed.
I'm not sure I understand the suggestions. My problem is not turning off the PC, but the fact that the PC still turns off when Macrium Reflect is busy (SSD/HD activity). (I need the described power management configuration for other reasons)
