Macrium update 8.1.7280 available 10th January. Details here http://updates.macrium.com/reflect/v8/v8.1.7280/details8.1.7280.htm
If I want to use an image of a partition to copy data (not OS) from HDD to an SSD, will the restore always be same size as the original if it has space to do so? I have a 230 GB partition on HDD, 400 unallocated on the SSD but there's really only 55 GB of data. Think I could shrink the partition on SSD using Disk Management afterwards. Using Macrium Reflect 7 free.
There is a recent thread (today) at the Macrium forum: https://forum.macrium.com/67528/PC-does-not-boot-anymore-after-81-upgrade Some posters are having problems. Macrium folks are already jumping in. Thread now two pages long, as far as I can tell now. (FYI: I use an older paid version of Macrium, so I cannot tell about the issue)
Curious to see what the underlying cause turns out to be. Never had any problems even close to that during the 8.1 beta. My money is on some averse interaction with some third-party AV solution. That’s been the cause of regular monthly Windows updates ending with a BSOD on boot. Users blame Microsoft because after all they just installed an update, but it was McAfee/Symantec/whoever that decided to interfere with some legitimate change that Microsoft made.
thanks for sharing that as the changelog hasn't been updated on their site as usual. This update is not available yet for the paid version. so unprofessional of them to release the update for the free version but the paid version is delayed
I usually find out about updates by seeing the free version posted on Majorgeeks before getting a notification in the paid version.
Notice that the Free version is still an 8.0 release. Paid was supposed to get the 8.1 release and the updates it adds. But apparently it was pulled. Yes, that means Free got an update before paid, but in this situation, would you prefer Macrium kept a release in the wild that they think they should pull, or pull a Free release even though there was no reason to do so?
That's obviously the situation. I got the notification about the available update about 3-4 hours ago. But as I always do for a certain time when an update for a software is released, I ignored the message. (And once more I see that such a temporary ignorance is very useful. ) In the meantime, when checking for updates by opening Macrium, it is no longer offered.
Perhaps they wanted to check telemetry for the free version if everything goes well before they deploy the paid one.
OK, it looks like that something has been found and the update been pulled. However on my end with the updated version backups work fine, didn't restore though.
Yesterday I requested the update directly in the program and received it without delay. The program works without any problems.
That's good. I have to assume that whatever is wrong with it doesn't affect everyone or it wouldn't have been released to begin with. It has not been offered to me but I will wait for the next build rather than trying to obtain this one.
