I'm running K7 TS 17.0.0962, with MAT (Multi-layered Artificial intelligence Technology). This K7 version includes a very effective Firewall (FW). However, as a security "hobbyist," I would like to try out some stand-alone FWs such as Simplewall, Evorim, Zone Alarm, & Glasswire. Since I do not want 2 FWs running at the same time, I want to disable (turn-off) K7's FW component during these trials. Problem: I cannot find a way to turn-off the K7 firewall. =>QUESTION: How can I disable (turn off) K7's firewall? PS-- I used to have a way to do this but it isn't available in this latest version of K7.
Did so. Received courteous reply saying (in effect) "we will look into it." (I'm not holding my breath pending a meaningful answer to my FW question.) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ @Hiltihome -- Yes, it's great fun PLUS (every now & then) I discover a security app that is better than what I have been using.
@bellgamin Hi, Why not just install the antivirus product with MAT and add a standalone firewall of your choice. BTW the cost of K7 products are interseting.
Thanks for the suggestion. However, the firewall component is built into K7 antivirus app. There is NO way to install K7 without also including its firewall component.
Sadly, I'm still using the old version. Their statement that existing users would get upgrades to the MAT version hasn't happened.
I have the MAT version, according to the color of the GUI. However, that GUI color is the ONLY evidence I have encountered relative to MAT's presence or existence.
a very vulnerable product, seriously? for the question - export settings if possible, then uninstall. be prepared to deal with artefacts. current ZA Firewall is paid, the free is > 6 years old. Glasswire is heavy. simplewall is more than a firewall - major issue of such products they do not focus its target feature which is not sellable. such products are self called "rich freatured", i would call it "blown" evorim same. firewalls should stay away from any web filtering feature (ads, tracking and similar, also a pointless antivirus feature). such features need to be current, of complete off.
Thank you very much for your informative comments. PLEASE suggest a stand-alone software firewall, paid or free, that comes close to meeting your standards.
I don't really think there is one anymore, unless you want a GUI for Windows' firewall. The days of the stand-alone firewall, such as Kerio, LooknStop, Outpost, etc, are sadly over. The best I've been able to come up with is Windows Firewall Control.
AFAIK, the only remaining stand-alone FWs are: Comodo FW Evorim free Fort FortKnox free & paid -- looks outdated & website is NOT secure as of 12/23/2022 Glasswire paid (free version isn't a FW) Portmaster free & paid -- in pre-release status -- VERY granular FW -- very promising Simplewall more-or-less stand-alone Sphinx -- Not recently updated. Outdated site design and page titles. TinyWall more-or-less stand-alone Zone Alarm free & paid Are there any others?
As far, as I know, there is none. Also there is no need, except you need, or want a serious solution, like a hardware solution. Of course, there is no free hardware solution.
Correct. But that's baked in to Windows. It's not like a user can break Simplewall because they deleted the WFP. There's no way to disable it.
It depends on what you're looking for, but I would go for TinyWall, very simply to operate and does the job. Of course it should be combined with HIPS since it doesn't protect against code injection and other firewall leaking techniques. From what I've read, the one from Evorim is pretty much a joke.
When installed, TinyWall immediately blocks all apps. It then suggests me to whitelist them as desired. However, it gives NO help in doing that noisome task. None! Instead, I must dig through program files and identify the each of the safe apps, one by one by one. IMO, Simplewall is a much better and more granular FW but -- to each his own, wot? Evorim is no joke. It has been updated and upgraded, frequently, for several years, by a German outfit that develops commercial apps. It is now a very effective FW for home users. Compared with TinyWall, Evorim FW is much much more user friendly. For one thing, immediately after Evorim is installed, it gives user access to a list of every app on that user's computer, together with a simple process for user to change Evorim's settings, or develop special rules, for each such app. Easy-peasy! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ @digmor crusher -- Thanks for reminding me about Cruel Comodo. BIG oversight on my part. I have added it to the above list of stand-alone FWs.
Uhhh... no. I went straight to the "Whitelist apps" button on TW's system tray icon. After ~10 minutes of doing that largely manual task, I decided TW was not my cup of tea. I didn't see an Autolearn mode nor was I aware of an Application Extension. Duhhh Does Autolearn facilitate the whitelisting job?
