Chromium notified me (old news) but it's in my face now that, "To get future Chromium updates, you'll need Windows 10 or later. This computer is using Windows 7."

Any way to fool Chromium into thinking I'm running Windows 10 or 11?

Hopefully dare I even say it don't want to jinx myself. I hope to heavens this doesn't spread to Vivaldi & Firefox.

Registry fix (save as .reg): :)
    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Chromium]
    "SuppressUnsupportedOSWarning"=dword:00000001

You cant. Google is removing support for windows 7 and 8 with EOL windows 8 which means somewhere jan/feb'23. you are not able to use it with a workarround, its hardcoded. and this change is distributed to any chromium based, dont know about edge but MS will follow. mozilla is rejecting win7/8 in aug'23 because of ESR until then. (to answer about firefox)
the only choice for users with a (very) vulnerable windows 7 is somehow an unknown derivate an its unsecure future. or you get stuck an a vulnerable browser. and you can be sure that attackers will find a way after that day to compromise browser and system.

Yeah just peachy of them isn't it. On Windows 8 here and now i'm more determined than ever to never upgrade beyond the doorstop Windows 10 new Dell. And of a fact, while all my Windows 8.1's are humming along at peak efficiency, Windows 10 on a brand new Dell is always just sitting there.

As far as security there are always ways and other developers who can and will fashion reliable safer substitutes than we expect.

Yeah we'll soon need a topic of "Browsers that work on Windows 7/8".

I hope these developers run rings around this awful policy.

That's why on some of my Windows 8 i keep the versions at 107.
It works fine as do the extensions. No worry and definitely no screwy NAGS.

If they want users to use Windows 10 nonsense then they can fork out the dough and buy it for them for their browser.

    That was about Edge.

It worked for me in Chromium (Ungoogled) in my Windows7 VM, but only the message on startup was suppressed.
The nag did appear in to 'chrome://settings/help'.

Haven't tested Edge in there. Not going to install it.

Don't worry, there will be some Chromium based browsers that continue to support Windows 7.

That's the way it should be, 1 message. Open-In chrome shows it the correct way, but Ms wants you to think - no more updates by overlaying the underlying status so you can't tell if it's updating. The info applies starting with v109, but anything before that will still update. I only installed Edge as an Open-in replacement for IE. Once W7/W8 are are EOL, I will uninstall the browsers and move the systems to a VM . I can still use my main browser (FF ESR) until it too goes EOL before looking further.

Firefox ESR might work. I'd seriously consider K-Meleon, I reckon that would work. I miss K-Meleon TBH as I loved it. It's not so easy to run on Unix. SeaMonkey may be a viable alternative. Maybe Waterfox. Or install Ubuntu. ;)

    So if I have Chromium 108 it'll still update? I don't understand.

Both edge browsers on my W7 and W8 are currently at 108.0.1462.54 which is the latest update right now. Should be the same for you.

you will get updates until they stop it (which means jan/feb for chromium based and aug'23 for mozilla)

you may be able to install those (i have doubt for chrome and edge - different installer), but you are not able to run those.
