I couldn't find an open thread for Wise Registry Cleaner, so I thought I'd open one.

I'm not a big user of any registry cleaner, but I occasionally run a portable version of a cleaner to highlight and identify program leftovers, including services and redundant firewall rules.

Wise Registry Cleaner is a free, light and uncluttered option. It is also available in portable format.
There is a Pro version, but the only thing that Pro offers is the ability to clean all accounts as opposed to current user account for the free version. I also like Wise Registry Cleaner, as it doesn't try to be a Swiss Army Knife, although it does have a System Tuneup and Registry Defrag tab, which I don't use.

Wise Registry Cleaner offers the user either a Fast, Deep or Custom Area scan. Fast is all I ever usually use. If required, you can set up a scheduled automatic registry clean. I don't use one often enough to need that.

You can also set it to make an automatic registry backup before cleaning, although I have never needed to restore it. As a registry cleaner, I find it to be very safe.

there is no need to clean the registry, neither nor and not that deep. the registry is about 200megs and more. if you clean up you speak about bytes, not megabytes.

the only useful of any "cleaner" is to empty the so called "MRU" lists. windows is protecting its entries and several other data so cleaning this up may result either in nothing (not deleted) or in system failure.

users claiming no failure have set not all options, or delete the wrong stuff. a myth: outdated entries do NOT slow down - they are not read nor used.

at least from my view no benefit to delete and never to pay for such software.
advertising/marketing is one, reality is complete different.

yes, but it's not really portable. it's just the standalone version. it leaves traces behind, unlike the one by j.t. haller.

I haven't been able to find any non-portable traces on my system.
That's the first thing that I check for with portable applications as not all portable applications are truly portable.

Use to use Wise- Traded it in for another-now pleased as a peach with the more reliable and SAFE HiBit Uninstaller.

I did try HiBit Uninstaller, but I found the registry cleaner to be too aggressive.
It flagged invalid firewall rules that are still in use.

I always keep those firewall rules in HiBit unchecked for obvious reasons-yes it is aggressive and at first use needs certain one's unchecked but the good part is each time HiBit makes a backup in case something needed is handled that might break things.

as has been discussed here before, dont rely on ANY program to manage the registry without making a backup first

They create backups automatically and even offer system restore points and the whole registry backup, but people still judge them based on obsolete Windows 95 reviews. As long as Windows will use registry, they will be needed.

without getting into a long debate, i am still of the opinion that registry programs are best avoided but i am sure there are others who will disagree but everybody is entitled to their own views or opinions

Pretty much every registry cleaner will sometimes want to delete needed registry keys. Doing so can cause problems. There are a very small number of registry cleaners which won't delete needed registry keys, which makes them safe to use. While you certainly don't need to ever clean the registry, if you use a safe registry cleaner, it's highly unlikely it will cause any problems and in exceptionally rare cases it may make a computer run faster or fix some problems.
