I am upgrading my home laptop which comes with an SSD,having always had systems with HDD I'm looking for any advice regarding Windows 10 settings or software to improve usage.I am aware you don't need to defrag these drives but any other advice would be welcome.
Nothing against but it's the same as with firewalls for instance. Why do people use third-party firewalls when the Window's one is commonly recognised as good and sufficient? So @BigBear68 if you don't mind finding out what you can tweak on your SSD you can check out SSD Fresh (freeware) to which I have had good experience with.
The following series of videos explain very well why there is no need to use any tools like SSD Fresh, or to change any Windows settings when using SSDs. He also says that defragging a SSD will improve performance if it is heavily fragmented and he explains why it's safe to defrag SSDs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0odEd8JH6mg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwonAKzBYcE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTBYpZokIGY
Until some years ago there was a point in managing the SSD for longer life, now, they outlast HDDs. So all that fuzz is redundant. But one can if one like, change some settings and get it to live a couple of weeks or maybe months longer, otherwise, just install and forget. As already mentioned, Windows will handle everything automaticlly. It is more important what SSD you buy.
