I'm a dial-up user of Nod32 (for two years) and I have always had continuous update errors in my Event Log. Below is example.

Just recently however I have also been getting a pop up after turning the computer on but before connecting to the internet. The popup says:

    Nod32-Update
    Server Connection Failure

    What is causing this?

I am on dialup and the last time I was able to successful update signatures was 11/26/04. Automatic and manual update tries have all failed since then.

On a dialup connection it appears to be normal (a bug with Nod32 showing an error).

The main issue of this thread is an error on manuel update, this is being worked on currently...

    Hope this helps...

    Cheers :D

I'm not sure if this is connected. Although my installation is set to check for updates every hour the event log only seems to show random attempts:

Shouldn't the log show all attempts? I'm on an ADSL connection in the UK and I'm assuming this equates to NOD's 'dial-up'.

i have a Win98 w/ dialup PC in workshop at moment, last update was 2 months ago, i put in my Decembers Evaluation license to update it and i keep getting server connection failure aswell, first it checks the files, then it asks for component upgrade, if i say yes or no it then says server connection failure, i can successfully ping the servers.

I am currently downloading the 2.12.3 and i will install that. and see what happens

Arrowsmith, please wait if you can. I'll get Bandicoot to have a look, there may be somthing on that system that will show a clue as to what is going on...

I know that the latest build was made public on the 26th. But now it's even November 30. And no update for FOUR days already. All other companies are bringing out updates. It's a bit worrying.

Is NOD32 that good that it doesn't need updating at all for four days?!

If updates are required, they will be pushed out at rapid rates.

Be assured your Nod32 AV is protecting your system very well...

    well, before i read this,
i uninstalled the current version, deleted the eset folder, attempted to extract the new file for NOD, and it said it was corrupted, download fresh copy.

So i just installed 2.12.2 from our shop setup CD, havnt tried updating yet but.

    Hello folks,

The problem of "Server connection failure" with an error code 11001 is related to the connection with the relevant ISP. This code means "No such host is known". I can't give you anymore specific details I'm afraid, but maybe Sagittarius, Arrowsmithmidwest, nonmirecordo and anybody else could check this out with their ISPs.

What I would suggest is maybe trying to 'Ping' the Eset servers if you haven't tried already, to see if your machine is talking to our server nicely or not. Here's what to do, and forgive me if this is a bit 'simple'....not everybody's a computer wizz kid!:

    1. Click 'Start' (bottom left corner of screen)
    2. Click 'Run'
    3. You will see a new, smallish window now with a text field (it says 'Open:' then there's a box)
    4. Type cmd into that box and click OK.
    5. You will now get a new 'black' window that says C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>
    6. Immediately after that, type in this text: ping u4.eset.com and hit the Enter key.
    7. Provided an Internet connection is established and our server working, you should see something very similar to the following:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>ping u4.eset.com

Pinging u4.eset.com [62.168.97.99] with 32 bytes of data:

    Reply from 62.168.97.99: bytes=32 time=xxxms TTL=59
    Reply from 62.168.97.99: bytes=32 time=xxxms TTL=59
    Reply from 62.168.97.99: bytes=32 time=xxxms TTL=59
    Reply from 62.168.97.99: bytes=32 time=xxxms TTL=59

    Ping statistics for 62.168.97.99:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 <0% loss>,
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = xxxms, Maximum = xxxms, Average = xxxms

    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>

    Regards to everybody,
    Bandicoot. :)

Even though I get server errors, I am able to get the updates when they are available. For example, just received the latest one:

    Time Module Event User
    11/30/2004 14:51:18 PM Kernel
The virus signature database has been updated successfully to version 1.936 (20041130). hp
11/30/2004 14:50:07 PM Update Function: gethostbyname, parameters: , return value: 11001 hp
11/30/2004 14:50:07 PM Update Update attempt failed (Server connection failure.) hp

    NOD32 Antivirus System information
Virus signature database version: 1.936 (20041130)
    Dated: Tuesday, November 30, 2004

    Virus signature database build: 5017

So, I am happy and will wait for the server errors problem to be fixed down the road. I know that the ESET staff will continue solving problems as they come along, as they are a superb team and NOD32 is a superb AV.

My experience this morning doesn't support that Bandicoot ...have just installed NOD32 on a new computer (removed an expired trial of Norton) dialled up with their ISP (a different one to mine) and got the error message after about 2 minutes. So I created a new dial-up using my own ISP and connected again and the download came straight through fine.

BUT, the good news is, when I scanned with NOD32 it found a dozen trojans, & sdbots straight off ... YAY! good ol' Noddie (boo hiss nortons)!!! :D

i could successfully get ping replies from the servers, it even verifies the databsae version, but then after that it says server connection failure.

    The ISP is Westnet.

    Here's another observation.
I've just run another new NOD32 installation (different from the above) and I tried to update on line (on a good quality town dial-up connection) the download failed after about 2 minutes, then I tried again with the manual update, and it proceeded right through to the end without a hitch.
What I notice when I watch the download status window, is that the "server connection error" message invariably occurs shortly after the download stops on one server and starts to look for another server (my terminology is probably not correct, but I think you'll get my drift :) )
The way it looks to me is that when it changes location, it doesn't get the necessary response to re-activate the download. If that's possible? I dunno, but it seems to be the pattern every time (if I happen to be watching it, which I have been quite regularly lately :( )

anything happening with this .. anybodyo_O
I am still getting intermittent "server connection errors" on a regular basis from various computers.
While some of them are the same ones I always get it from, others that I was getting it from back when I originaly started this thread, have stopped.
However, there are some other computers now sending them, that I never received them from previously.
Hope that isn't too confusing :D
