    From the article:
"PayPal will charge the fee automatically, provided that the inactive account has a positive balance. Accounts with a balance of zero are not impacted by the fee, but they may face closure as well. The maximum amount that PayPal is going to charge is €10, or the equivalent in another currency. If the account's balance is positive but less than €10, that amount is charged by PayPal.

Accounts that remain inactive for another 60 days after the fee has been charged face termination."

It isn't. They charge transaction fees. They are a payment processor and not a bank. Paying them for nothing (inactivity) seems like a bad precedent.

I know, but seen Rasheed187's reaction, I wondered if he noticed. That is why I gave that reply.

To my knowledge, banks also charge transaction fees to shops. And also, even if I had no money on my bank account and I did not use my credit card, I still had to pay my bank for having an account and for having a credit card.
Paying for having a PayPal account (if you do not log in once a year) doesn't seem all that different to me. Which doesn't mean I welcome it.

They do but they provide additional services whether I use my account or not. They still have to process a monthly statement and so on. They also usually provide notary services and such, maintain physical locations, etc. Some of them probably still provide free checks if you use the plain ones. ATM machines are probably also not cheap to maintain. Plus physical security for branch locations. I feel way more justified in giving a bank fees than PayPal.

OK thanks, I guess this isn't so bad if you only have to login or make a payment once a year. I think I might soon use PayPal to pay for YouTube Premium. I have also used them to pay for holiday and software because I got a discount, if I recall correctly. But other than that I almost never use PayPal, I prefer the iDeal system. I also try to avoid using creditcards since it's not that safe.

Similar. In the past, I still used old fashioned 'paper' banking, not online banking, and I used PayPal for online shopping if I could or credit card if there was no PayPal option. Nowadays, now that I use online banking, in the Netherlands I use iDeal payment, and for shopping abroad I use PayPal if possible or credit card if there is no PayPal option.

I canceled my PayPal account on November 11, 2022. I don't use it very much, it's a US account, I live in the Philippines, to log in I have to prearrange with my sister to get the verification code. I am not a fan of possibly being fined for anything PayPal does not agree with what I might happen to post somewhere and now this inactivity fee. My account has never been linked to a bank account either. I did loss $5 though on closing the account, no big loss.
