Good evening, on my old home PC with Windows 7 pro, I've always used the fantastic Shadow Defender
for internet browsing and also for testing new software... and thanks to Shadow Def. after 8 years the pc is
still lean and clean almost like at the beginning!!
Now I would like to install SD also on my new notebook (Asus Vivobook) but I don't understand if it's compatible
or not with Windows 11. On the official website it seems so, but the latest release is dated August 2020.... so
    I don't know... boh...
Have any of you experts already tried this?

PS sorry for my bad english but i had to use google translate!

    Hello Z,

SD has been running smoothly on my new Dell (Windows 11) laptop over the past 2 months.

You may be notified that the SD driver is incompatible with Windows' Core Isolation Memory Integrity Functionality. Actually, that was the case with Windows 10 as well, but (based on my experience) that does not interfere with SD's operations.

    Thanks Wendi for replying.
The fact that you are using SD on windows 11 without problem is very good for me!...so tomorrow I will definitely try it on my notebook too...
which version did you install exactly?...I guess latest release 1.5.0.726.. ..

My 3 month old Dell laptop came with Windows 11, and it receives Windows updates automatically as they are released by Microsoft (so it is always running the latest release).

    @Wendi

I truly appreciate your insight and taking to time to let us know, what you are experiencing with Shadow Defender.
    And Windows 11.....:geek:

Question, Please! Have you,Wendi turned off Fast startup, hiberboot, hybrid boot, or hybrid shutdown:)? For Shadow Defender:)? On Windows 10/11.

Make it a great one, that is today. And tomorrow an even better one.

@Moose World. Yes, it's really best to disable them (you must disable them if you choose to "Enter Shadow Mode on Boot")! You have to understand that a full Shutdown (or a Restart) is necessary in order for SD to do its 'magic' when exiting Shadow Mode, If you use SD on-demand ("Exit Shadow Mode on Shutdown") you may use those features as long as you do a Restart to exit Shadow Mode (Restart always performs a full Shutdown). ;)

Did you try this? Credit to Andy Ful.

I used the Compatibility Administrator tool (from Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit) to see the details related to Shadow Defender and found a simple method to install Shadow Defender on Windows 24H2. This method does not mess with apphelp.dll.
    1. Use 7-Zip to unpack the installer SD1.5.0.726_Setup.exe
    2. Use 7-Zip to unpack the embedded installer Setup_x64.exe
    3. Open the unpacked folder and rename the file setup.exe.
    4. Run the renamed file.

Clean install with 26100.1, install SD, install latest cumulative updates. Haven't tried digmor's post since I always clean install with a .1 base when available.

I would also like to add my thanks to @digmor crusher and Andy Ful.
I uninstalled my SD on Win 11 23H3 as a test and of course it wouldn't reinstall.
This workaround allowed me to put it back manually instead of just restoring an image.
I wanted to know that this way worked :thumb:

I tried this on 11 24H2, it worked.

I had uninstalled SD to upgrade to 24H2 from an ISO created with Media Creation Tool.

The old incompatibility with Core Isolation > Memory Integrity remains, of course.

I have also found that an in-place upgrade done with a UFD customized by Rufus 4.6 preserves the SD installation.

So it seems there are two methods to save SD from extinction, for the time being.

That was a rather Spooky ordeal. MS ******* SD like that is the same as blacklisting Microsoft Defender if you ask me. Total jerks.

Did have to remove their folder w/rmdir /S /Q C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\ (Same old routine)

I have it all set to Upgrade but performed a DRY run first.

I tried many times to install Shadow Defender on Windows 11 23H2, but failed due to driver incompatibility with Windows hardware-enforced stack protection.

The following steps, suggested by Digmor Crusher, could not solve the problem so far..

Fortunately, @Gaddster shared the extracted SD files. A big thanks for this, as it helped me install Shadow Defender in Windows 11 finally :)
    I am very happy. :):)
Perhaps, for the time being, I will not upgrade my Windows 11 to 24H2.

I been able to have Shadow Defender on Windows 11 some many months ago by a simple upgrading my DELL which came with Windows 10 into 11 and as Windows 11 completed there was no issue with that whatsoever.

In fact through all updates it has remained working as usual.

I also went with @Gaddster's generous share since i already ran into 24H2 demanding it be uninstalled first.
In fact i am sure it will keep SD but my issue is been getting 24H2 to even apply itself at all. So for the time being i'm satisfied with 23H2 and SD working perfectly.

I've optimistically emailed Tony about the recent issues (installation Windows 11 etc) and also asked if any new version of Shadow Defender is in the pipeline.
I will post here if I receive any response.

It´s good to be optimistic, especially nowadays. I can´t.

BTW, I did another in-place upgrade to Windows 11 24H2 in a computer in which SD was installed on Windows 10, using the "Rufus method". SD remained installed and working normally after the upgrade.

Many thanks to @digmor crusher and Andy Ful. I now have the installer files hidden away.
FWIW, Nirsoft's excellent hashmyfiles shows the installer files I extracted here to be identical to gaddster's except for one readme file.

    Hello @ Wilders

I can confirm that Shadow Defender SD 1.5.0.726 works on Windows 11 Home 24H2.
I have just installed it using the method via Andy Ful and using the downloaded Extracted Files courtesy of Gaddster with Core Isolation disabled.

My question now is can Core Isolation be enabled now that Shadow Defender has been re-enabled?

    Thank you

    Terry

No, but you could just try. It´s a rather old incompatibility.

Based on my experience (having recently tried that), NOT if you don't want to crash Win11 !!!

    Hi pvsurfer

Thanks for that. I haven't yet plucked up courage to try it.

Otherwise Shadow Defender is working ok with Windows 11.
