I am using ESET SmartSecurity and GData Total Security on two machines. I want to use additionally anti-spyware which is compatible with these existing security products which are installed. I read about WatchDog and their website says it works well with existing products. But their website does not give more information on the internals. Please advise.
Why do you feel you need extra security software? If you keep Windows updated and are careful about what files you open, usually it is very hard to get infected. If you feel you really must use something, I'd recommend using a second opinion scanner like Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool to run occasional malware scans.
I think you're safe with your setup and I second @roger_m that you don't need anything more. Especially if you use ESET Smart Security which is a full-fledged security suit giving you even more than just ordinary AV features like HIPS, exploit and ransomware blocker, firewall, antiphishing, antispam etc. I'm sometimes tempted to let's say harden up my security but frankly I didn't find yet additional security layers which aren't already included in ESET Endpoint Security.
Thanks @pegas @roger_m I was in impression that spywares might get missed from existing Total Security products.
How would you rate GData Total Security 2022 when compared with ESET Smart Security ? I have been using ESET from last 12 years and presently using on another machine and Android device. This is the first time I purchased GData.
Unfortunately I can't judge this as I have zero experience with G-data apps but as per AV lab tests they perform pretty well.
Not these days. Some time ago that was the case, but these days antiviruses do very good at detecting spyware as well as other forms of malware. It doesn't hurt to use a second opinion scanner from time to time as I mentioned, because no antivirus provides 100% protection. So there is a small chance you got get a threat that your antivirus fails to detect. But I don't feel that you need to have two products with real-time protection. Such discussions aren't allowed at Wilders. But they are both solid products which provide good protection. ESET is one of the lightest antiviruses there is, whereas possibly GData might have more system impact. But the only way to know is to test both products. Having said that, if you're happy with ESET, there's really no need to switch products.
Spyware will not be missed by today's AVs and yet, nothing is 100% secure. What I have recommended for years on this forum is to do a daily image backup so you can restore if there is some kind of malware attack.
periodic malware scan with malwarebytes free or Emsisoft Kit will be more then enough . Just in case you feel not safe or suspect about something . Anything else is overkill and not necessary
Just my two cents, I agree completely with what has been said so far, but for your peace of mind you can install SpywareBlaster which is well known here at Wilders: https://www.brightfort.com/spywareblaster.html It doesn't take any resources from your computer, it is compatible with any antimalware security, and it is a very effective protection against spyware (I've had it for a long time with no problems).
It's not spyware and provides excellent detection, which makes it a good choice. Kaspersky has even been audited. But if you choose to believe otherwise, that's up to you.
