This DDG app seems to be quite interesting. I didn't know that such a VPN could be used to block trackers in other apps. This also makes me wonder if it's possible for apps to track other apps in iOS and Android? If apps all run sandboxed, should this even be possible for DDG's VPN to block trackers in third party apps?
The blocking of trackers is a standard feature in many other VPN/DNS apps for android. You can also do this with an app that lets you customise the HOSTS file, but that needs ROOT access. Disconnect.me were one of the main options earlier on, but over time we have other such apps which offer swapping to a custom DNS and using optional blocklists. Out of the box, Rethink DNS offers the most options in DNS and blocklists https://rethinkdns.com/app The DDG app does show the user some handy info on what is being blocked, however if you just want to "set and forget" I don't see much advantage in it. I will have to do some comparisons.
OK cool, didn't know about this. Now that I think about it, it does make sense since VPN's should be able to control all network traffic.
