Mullvad has updated it's VPN client. This newest version made some improvements, including a pretty drastic update in speed (by upgrading Wireguard). Download it here. I mention the update because, in my opinion, that was the ONE thing that needed to be improved with Mullvad. This version, released 4/28/21, fixes that.

    See what's changed:

What’s new in the latest app for Windows, Linux, and macOS? For one, an upgrade that we hope will improve performance for many of you. Read on, then download and see for yourself.

    What’s new
    • Windows users connecting with WireGuard® will hopefully experience a noticeable improvement in performance and a decrease in bugs thanks to our Wintun upgrade from version 0.9.2 to 0.10.1.
    • The desktop app is now translated and available in the Burmese language.
    • In the login field, the app now locally remembers one account number instead of three. We might remove this feature altogether; let us know what you think.
    • We have discontinued the use of TLS 1.2 when the app connects to the API and now only use the latest version, TLS 1.3.
    • (Linux) Drop packets being forwarded unless they are approved by the same rules as incoming or outgoing traffic. This tightens security for all Linux devices that act as routers and/or have VMs/containers.
    • We added port 51820 to the list of WireGuard ports, available under Settings > Advanced.

Mullvad continues to show why it's the best VPN there is.

Is there any reason updating of the app for desktop cannot be done internally. Once you go to the website to download the new versions, it only lists the Sweden site and it is so slow, they don't even have a easy link on their homepage to other mirrors. Finding the file on github allows for a "normal" download but you need to be an expert to verify this. Not everyone is constantly on Github and an IT specialist. Why can't they provide decent hash info like for most other software.

(Release notes for 2023.2 and 2023.1 can also be found there.

I don't know why it does not have an internal update.
On the main website it downloads in 30 seconds for me.
Downloading the file on Github is no different in verification than the one on the main website. You also don't need to be constantly on Github, just save the link as a bookmark and wait until you get notified by the program that there is a newer version.
File hashes don't provide any security, that's why it is GPG signed. If you're on Windows, that version is also signed with an Authenticode signature. You can easily verify that by viewing file properties -> digital signature -> details.

The time to download may have something to do with your location - maybe it's faster to outer space than to my neighbourhood but using the Github link is fine.
