LOL, Musk supposedly is a strong believer in ''free speech'' but then decided to mute Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez when she criticized him for charging 8 bucks for a verified Twitter account, which used to be free. :argh:

I guess now you have to give people notice to fire them for some reason.

That's the best thing I've seen today. But again, people usually don't get any notice when their job is cut. It gives them too much opportunity for disgruntlement. Or revenge. Or whatever.

As for regular lay offs in my country it depends on how long employee worked in a company. It ranges from 2 weeks to 3 months. It makes changing work smoother. Of course if employee does some major wrongdoing then he/she can be fired immediately as a disciplinary action.
Somebody may use that time to try harm employer but employer may then go to court to make employee pay for damages.
Most adult people are rational enough to use that time to search for new job instead of wasting time on "revenge" that will put them in trouble.

Some damages can't be undone. In any case I've seen multiple claims he is going to pay them for 2 months so there really isn't an issue here to begin with. Best of luck to them all, I hope they find a job they enjoy.

That would also mean lifetime damage to employee's career. He/she would have it in the "documents" when searching for a new job forever.

Last but not least no one is stopping company to revoke some IT privileges in access control system to the most powerful employees before notifying them about lay off. I mean company of a size of a Twitter should have it, right?

A layoff shouldn't count against you when you seek a new job.

Also today I am seeing they were offered 3 months severance. No reason to limit their access and keep them around assuming all they wanted was the pay. It gives them 3 months paid free time to look for something else. If they liked their job it does suck for them but it isn't like they are being pushed out with no money and blacklisted. There are probably companies that will hire some of them because of this.

I meant "revenge" on company by somebody notified in advance.

I'm not sure how healthcare payments work in US. Severance seems like a good replacement, but will they stay insured?

While I fully support employees' rights, Elon is doing it right. Twitter with 7.500 employees was becoming an overblown balloon without control and rather not talk about Meta with 87.000 employees. Social media can and definitely will work with fewer employees.

You often see this with companies that they will start to overspend on employees, they grow the companies too fast, see link. I also feel like it's a bit to show off, the more employees, the more successfull these companies are perceived to be.

But on the other hand, they are still making billions but since their growth is stagnating, the easiest way to please Wall Street investors is to fire people. So I'm not sure what to think. It's never fun to lose your job, especially when you think that you did add value.

Quite a common employees' perception but you're hired to do a job for which you're paid and in certain degree your work, in some jobs more and some less, adds value to company. However employees aren't the ones who should be evaluating their added value. Everyone is replaceable even if we think that we, in particular, aren't replaceable. :)

"Twitter's Top Security Officer Quits As Changes Rock Platform

The company's CISO Lea Kissner is departing amid reports that Twitter is rushing development of new features and products without undergoing a security review...

In addition to Kisner, Twitter’s chief privacy officer, chief compliance officer, and several members of the company’s privacy and security division have also resigned...

A key reason for the departures is due to Twitter’s new push to release products and features without effective security reviews. A Slack message from a Twitter legal staffer noted this practice was “extremely dangerous” for users and could put employees under personal legal risk of violating Twitter’s 2011 data security agreement with the US Federal Trade Commission..."

LOL, did you guys see this? And I've also read that Musk is afraid that Twitter will go bankrupt next year, see second link. This stuff is funny as hell! Well except for that Musk sold billions of Tesla's stock to keep Twitter alive and now I have a loss of $1000. :argh:

That's just some fake sports news abusing the verified checkmarks, I've also seen more serious stuff.
Someone with a verified checkmark impersonated the Eli Lilly pharma company and tweeted that insulin would be free now, after which their stocks tanked. Which I find quite funny as the inventors of insulin sold their patent for $1 so that everyone would be able to get it, yet Eli Lilly is selling it for insane prices in the US, while it is quite affordable in the rest of the world.
Similarly, someone impersonated Lockheed Martin tweeting that they would be halting all weapons sales to Saudi Arabia, Israel and the US pending investigation into human rights abuses, also tanking their stocks.

Don't log out of Twitter if you have 2FA. The microservice for it has been shut down. You won't be able to log back in.

"Elon Musk just ended Twitter SMS 2FA, so don't get locked out of your account

    I
f you use text messages to prove who you are when logging into Twitter, your account is in danger thanks to Twitter's CEO...

Elon Musk has disabled specific microservices at Twitter, including Twitter SMS 2FA...

Musk tweeted out that he has shut down microservices at Twitter calling them 'bloatware.' He claims that less than 20% are actually required for Twitter to work. However, Twitter SMS 2FA is part of those microservices, which is a big problem..."

Holy crap, this Musk guy is even dumber than I thought. I told you guys that he isn't the genius that people think he is. I mean, how could he not see this coming with the whole Twitter Blue ''fake account'' fiasco? Here's another interesting article:

If it didn't fit the scene so well, this article would actually be amusing. I thought I was over this Twitter thing and how beyond-outrageous it has gotten, but I was mistaken. NOW, I'm done with it (whether it's actually true or not). Last time. So disgusting.

"Twitter Closes All Of Its Office Buildings as Employees Resign En Masse...

Hundreds of Twitter employees have resigned en masse following Elon Musk's ultimatum that they commit to what he has dubbed a 'hardcore Twitter 2.0.'
