I haven't had any issues with RC1 but if they release RC2 I'll install it.

Can you install this over the top of the current stable build?

You can install any build over any build. If you install a beta it changes your update channel to beta. If you go back to RC or a released build you go back to the release channel updates. If you downgrade you have to create a new profile. I usually stick with the RC and release builds.
Also the last RC becomes the release build. It is not marked as RC.

---Just installed RC2. Seems fine but so did he previous RC.

You can install any RC of up cumming final over the top of a final. but be aware that mozilla is each new version throtteling its distribution to avoid frustration when issues occur on the first (random) 25%.

best method is to use a different profile for up coming versions which are beta before.
want to know about next version? use beta builds with a different profile! (i do)

RC1/RC2, and maybe RC3 are NO official releases,

They can be. There was only 1 RC for 106 which became the final build. Maybe that is why there were 5 point release updates. :argh:

i dont care - i get any RC until it gets final. but i also use several profiles for each build and other special purposes. release date is the (borked) tuesday (monday evening to wednesday depending on timezone)

even when the folder for candidates is filled, then its also not recommend for native users to grab it. wait for the regular update. or open the about firefox dialog and click the button (if not disabled by policies).

only rc1 is possible but as you have noticed:
and the bugfixes were heavy. thats why telemetry for firefox is so important if you do not use a standard system with standard components. in case of ZEN cpu crashes, oops, they really missed it.

With a 4 week development cycle, one of which is RC, I don't feel it is any less stable then waiting for it to be final a week later. If there is an issue, I will use Edge while I wait for a fix.

FYI - the RC2 got final - the folders got filled.

    BTW
https://ftp.mozilla.org does not exist, its a redirect to https://archive.mozilla.org

i have the current beta installed (which got RC1/RC2) with a separate profile. when it went final the profiles were shifted (after backup). i recommend trialing the next build with a different profile to check out if there are critical changes or issues. as you probably know the v106 had issues with crashes and i am very sure that those issues had happened with the beta build too.

i know users running only beta which may have issues until final:
