Cool, so Adguard has an element picker too? And what I meant is, that since uBlock Lite is becoming more simplified, why not make the GUI more like Ghostery's, a bit more handy and pretty. But yes, it will be limited anyway, and I have just installed it on Vivaldi, and it partially works. So it does seem to remove ads but I don't get to see any number on the extension icon.

On my outdated laptop, uBO Lite is very impressive on MS Edge! It uses far fewer resources than ADG MV3 but blocks ads about the same. I like the option to grant more permissions for specific sites to enhance cosmetic filtering. The only downsides I see for my use case are the inability to add a custom filter list and the lack of an element picker.

I can't comment on resource usage, but I haven't noticed any resource or stability issues running it on Edge on my ~5 year old laptop.

Agree with these observations. I think gorhill has done a nice job on this extension so far, especially as a lone volunteer.

    This matches my experience ...
Patience, my friend, as only time will tell what changes are in store, of course while keeping to gorhill's overriding intention for Lite.;)
... again, this is his aim in keeping with Google's MV3's strict, stated motivation for the change from MV2.

I did a test with AdGuard MV3 vs UBO Lite in FastCompany.com.
If we take into consideration only the numbers given in the icons of the 2 extensions it seems that UBO Lite outperforms Adguard MV3:

    UBO Lite:

    AdGuard MV3:

The layout of the AdGuard is identical to that of UBO MV2.
The web page layout of UBO Lite, even with additional permissions (click sun icon) cannot compete with that of AdGuard MV3.

    P.S.

It would be interesting to know the type of blocks reported in the numbers of the 2 extensions.

I tested uBO MV3 on a Fast Company article on Chromium and saw 42 items blocked. A video ad with sound autoplayed, however, unless I granted uBO enhanced permissions for that site, even though I have an autoplay blocker add-on. After that, I didn't see any more ads, just some blank spaces. I use a strict ad-blocking DNS with Chromium as well (full OISD list).

I have noticed that neither ADG nor uBO MV3 can block promoted Tweets, even with enhanced permission granted. The filtering required is probably rather complicated. Kiwi browser (Android), which uses a built-in block list similar to the one on uBO MV3, is also unable to block promoted Tweets on Twitter.

Despite these few gripes, I find browsing on Chromium with uBO MV3 a surprisingly good experience. Gorhill is a genius.

Thanks for this encouragement. People had some doom-and-gloom prophecies for Mv3 but it seems now it might be a little premature. I certainly may be less averse to trying out a chromium browser with uBlock Origin AFTER January 2023.

Very nice progression of uBO Lite. :)

I don't think we will ever see promoted Tweets on Twitter get blocked. Twitter is a real mess with all the extra stuff to scroll past.

Good to hear about this. Like I said, I hope he can make it a bit more like Ghostery when it comes to the GUI. Sadly enough, on Vivaldi it only seems to work partially. And BTW, I found an article about how Vivaldi is planning to handle MV3, and I'm not sure what to think, see link.

apparently vivaldi says "we will wait and see how google will implement mv3 and we'll try to do our best to minimize its impact.".

I installed the uBO Lite on CHROME 105 turning of the regular and turning on the 'Lite' version to see where this goes.

Some comments gorhill made about uBO Lite a few days ago.

    Of particular note:

Thanks to MT forum member oldschool for posting this over there.

I did a test with UBO Lite 0.1.22.9248 for CNAME trackers.
    No blockages.
This seems strange since Easy Privacy seems to be default list.
I would need some explanation from Yuki2718 if he reads this forum.

The needed 'CNAME lookup' feature in µBO is probably too complex for Lite MV3 due to the nature of DNR's declarative rules, and given gorhill's admitted intention for the Lite version. He is currently trying to figure out how or whether to implement these features:
Yuki could explain the technical details and you could ask this question at github/ublock/issues/issue/338

That discussion in GitHub is limited to contributors.
I do not, therefore, have permission to write a post.

    P.S.

If Mr.Hill can implement this feature, which doesn't even work in AdGuard MV3, that would be a big plus point for him.

Although I consider blocking CNAME trackers (possible in AdGuard MV3 although the mechanism of operation is always obscure to me to understand) an even higher priority.

The next release of uBO MV3 should address the promoted Twitter ads:
