Not to mention the huge volume of data they vacuum up from those users.

Yes indeed- they make money on your data and the software is "free" but remember: TANSTAAFL.

Yes, I noticed too. Is it merger or acquisition?

LifeLock is just a Data Vampire. Good reason not to use any products they obtain or took over.

Makes sense they'd go after Avast/AVG then. ********* of a feather...

They all may be data vampires because we don't know for sure what is going on under the hood.

Exactly. As has been said before, when the software is free, you are the product.

For Norton/LifeLock it is all about the data, and why is Norton in all tests always 100% blocking and top av pick , money money money.
In real life on our website , the testing and real life scenario is , systems are infected.

It's a powerful motivator. When they are all one company they will get all of the money. The unfortunate side effect is with no competition they can charge higher prices and reduce their efforts because what are you going to do? Go to the competition? I wonder at what point they will sue Microsoft for including free AV and try to kill that so there are no free products.

NortonLifeLock Merges With Avast to Form New Company Called 'Gen'

"The merged company will maintain the Norton, Lifelock, Avast, and
    Avira brands, though."

    By Michael Kan
    November 7, 2022

"NortonLifeLock has settled on a new company name after merging with antivirus
provider Avast two months ago: Gen."

"The full name is actually Gen Digital. But the company is already promoting
itself as Gen through marketing materials and on its website."

    ...

"Gen will act as the parent company for several security-related brands including
Norton, LifeLock, and Avast, in addition to Avira, AVG, and CCleaner, which were
    obtained in previous acquisitions."

"But despite the new name, all the separate brands will continue to live on."

    ...

"NortonLifeLock paid over $8 billion to acquire Avast, ..."
