Wondering if anyone else is experiencing this. Just an annoyance really but curious why it is happening. Running Wise 9.6.2.685 free on Win 10 pro, V1709 OS build 16299.125 When I run the cleaner, using the advanced cleaner tab, it makes the quick access icon appear on the desktop, every time. Easy enough to make it disappear, just go in the view options menu in folder settings and toggle the hide empty drives switch, but why is this happening?
Try to update to the latest version. I never had this issue, then again I am using this. Code: reg add "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel" /v "{679f85cb-0220-4080-b29b-5540cc05aab6}" /t REG_DWORD /d "1" /f
It's not happening for me, I just ran the advanced cleaner. You do not have the latest version. If you go the menu in WDC and select Check for Updates, it will update to the current version.
I see there is a later version, but when I check through the menu it says the version I have is the latest. Very Odd.
Well, it's just over 2 years later and I have encountered another, different odd issue with Wise Disk Cleaner (WDC). To wit: 1) I am running WDC 10.2.7.778. 2) I am running OSArmor (OSA), a behavior blocker. 3) When I run WDC, OSA blocks 2 exe files: xcacls.exe and takeown.exe 3) As an experiment, I ran WDC with OSA disabled after which I ran WDC with OSA enabled, so that it blocked WDC from using xcacls.exe and takeown.exe. In both runs, WDC reported the exact same number of MBs that could be saved by clearing. Ergo, I conclude that whatever WDC was trying to accomplish by using xcacls.exe and takeown.exe, it *probably* was inapplicable to my specific computer and its specific files. However, it bears mentioning to you folks because I am not a security expert. By the way: takeown.exe is a system & hidden Microsoft file -- a command line tool which can be used to take the ownership of files and folders. xcacls.exe is a file that can be used to modify and to view NTFS file system permissions for files or for folders. Although I am no expert, it seems to me that those particular files might be used for unfriendly purposes. Ergo, I can see why OSA blocks them. However, I doubt that WDC is using them for unfriendly purposes.
Does anyone else have this odd issue with WDC? (happening for a long time now, many versions). Currently running latest on latest Win 10 21H2. If I go to the advanced clean tab and start it, it hangs forever. I have to quit the program sometimes 2-3 times for it to complete and be able to clean the files. I am also unable to cancel the operation, that button is greyed out. Thanks.
@g17 g, try dl'ing and running the portable. i use the portable and have no such issues. https://downloads.wisecleaner.com/soft/WDCFree_10.9.1.807.zip
It is most likely to close some background process/task/service, try to close everything else before running it.
