This build is a test build, it changes two core Sandboxie mechanics. It reworks the hooking mechanism to enable proper unhooking on dll unload which should solve various compatibility issues It lets Sandboxie to use custom logon tokens instead of the anonymous one, the option is on by default in the test build and can be controlled with the "SandboxieLogon" setting This build also adds various UI improvements and a Vintage View Mode which makes Sandman.exe look almost like the classic SbieCtrl.exe Download: https://github.com/sandboxie-plus/Sandboxie/releases/tag/v1.2.5 [1.2.5 / 5.57.5] - 2022-07-22 Changed improved a few icons Fixed fixed certificate validation issue
As with v1.2.1, 1.2.2 and 1.2.3, I am still not able to launch Brave (default) or Firefox with v1.2.5. Here are some of the error messages I get: I then rolled back to v1.1.3, only to get even more error messages. But at least, I was able to run Brave and Firefox sandboxed. Here are some of the error messages I collected from Sandboxie Manager: Finally, I decided to reinstall v1.2.0 which was running okay before and still does, even if it is sometimes very resource-intensive (for a reason I can't explain). Win10 Pro x64 21H2 v19044.1826
Just installed this build on my Windows 11 drive and using it strictly for Firefox browser v. 102.1. No flickering while dragging, no errors, no higher-than-normal cpu use--works like I expect it to work. I am mystified as to why I get these problems with my Windows 10 drive. I'll install this build there a bit later and see what happens. If anything, I'll install the NV graphics driver 511.79 there which is an older one on this W11 drive.
Try disabling SandboxieLogon=n this should fix the issues with 1.1.3 but as of 1.2.5 we will see i supose not, presumably its still hooking related strange is that i cant reproduce this issue. I would hav thought that build 1.2.4 would have fixed you issue... but now you are saying 1.2.0 works? very strange So 1.2.0 works whats about .1 .2 .3 .4 ?
I've just installed 1.2.5 (first time for 1.2 branch) over 1.1.3 and from a first look everything seems to be working correctly, which is great. ## OS Name: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro, Version: Windows 10.0.19044 Build 19044 ## Security Windows Defender + Hard Configurator, Comodo Firewall ## Apps tested # Running in a sandbox Firefox 102.0.1, Opera 89.0.4447.48 # Installed into a sandbox dBpoweramp, AssetUPnP, Plex, Musicbrainz Picard, Audacity ## Pertinent sandboxie settings NetworkEnableWFP=y EnableObjectFiltering=y EnableWin32kHooks=y SandboxieLogon=y UseFileDeleteV2=y UseRegDeleteV2=y
Hmm, as for now this seems to be a major success. Thanks again for the upgrade. Opera_production v.89 works flawlessly, no startup delay or sluggish behavior. And even "Opera Developer", meanwhile upgraded to v.91 doesn't seem to show any noteworthy delay any more upon startup and now (perhaps after a few seconds) reacts promptly thereafter - as it should. Perhaps it is still too early to tell for sure - but as for now those sluggishness-problems - whatever has caused them - seem to be gone.
Thanks for the reassuring post, stapp! Installed v. 1.2.5 cleanly on my Windows 10 drive after a week's break from SBIE. For a second, cpu climbed to 12% (for an i9, that's ridiculous with just one tab open --Wilders--in Firefox). Then it fell to normal 0-1% and stayed there. But I'll keep an eye on it. No flickering when dragging around the desktop either, an otherwise BIG no-no. Thanks a lot for this build,, DavidXanatos. I'm a bit more optimistic about this one for the time being and best of all, I didn't need to change the NV graphics driver.
@DavidXanatos Thank you for this build. No issues for me Is the upcoming v1.2.5b also planned to be a pre-release?
Sorry, had to delete prior post as the edit got too convoluted. Anyway, it's a new day and no issues crept up. So that's good. Still--if anyone runs Rainmeter, at machine startup, it's somewhat delayed in loading compared to other startup programs. What happens is: at startup, if I open Firefox before Rainmeter has leaded, Sandman will knock my chosen black system mouse pointer out, and it's changed into the white default pointer. Plus, there's no Service to edit for Rainmeter and you can't do Sandman's to Automatic--delayed start. Error box: Parameter could not be set. Just sayin'.
@plat1098 In the past, I used winpatrol to set rainmeter with a delayed start for a weather skin. My system is win7 but similar programs may be available for win 10/11 (e.g Glary Quick Startup).
Well, I appreciate this! Got the WinPatrol program from Bleeping Computer site (the Softonic site resulted in a "server not found" error in Firefox) But anyway...I put Rainmeter in the Delayed Programs section of WinPatrol--it's supposed to delay startup by 30 seconds. It's been two minutes now and I'm still waiting for Rainmeter to show up. I think I've been stood up here. Dang, I wanted this to work. But maybe it has something to do with Windows 10 latest. Thanks for the suggestion. Woof, woof!
My weather skin was also set for a delay of 30s (enough for the internet connection to be established). Sorry to hear that winpatrol didn't work out for you. EDIT: Filehippo has a later v35.x... of winpatrol. Might help?[search 'winpatrol filehippo']
Yes, temporarily I had to uninstall Sandboxie due to cpu use climbing back up to 11-12 % with just one tab open and staying there. I have no clue whatsoever as to what is causing this or why. it's pretty annoying. So after a break when I can get Firefox to stop doing this while boxed, I will try this other version. Without Sandboxie on the system, I can open Firefox as soon as the desktop is reached, without concern about Rainmeter or my system pointer.
"WinPatrol"... Talk about a blast from the past! If Softpedia is any credible source (and I believe it is), Winpatrol was last updated 5/8/2017 with a "Note:" (in spiffy red letters)--- "WinPatrol is no longer being maintained and is not a reliable solution for protecting your PC against malware." Direct quote. Really curious as to how that's been working out so far.
For me, the only version that works well with both browsers (firefox and edge) and that I use now is Sandboxie Classic 5.55.22. Windows 10 Pro 21H2.
