*** SOLVED ---- SEE BELOW post #5 *** I am behind the curve here still using MR Pro 5.0+ to capture forensic backups of Linux LUKS partitions/volumes. Works like a champ EXCEPT the created Win recovery environment doesn't "see" my USB's. I keep /boot on USBs enabling/creating multiple sticks for each separate Bullseye system. Therefore no issues with having 4 completely independent OS's (separate LUKS partitions/volumes) on the same machine (never at the same time of course). At this point I have to do a dd of the /dev/sdb's to write out a forensic image of my corresponding /boot for each system. It would be much easier if MR could simply create the USB /boot forensic images simultaneous with the corresponding SSD LUKS vaults. Restoring images would then be easier too! Do the latest MR Pro recovery environments have this covered yet?
Macrium v8 has added support for imaging and cloning usb flash drives. It also now fully supports Linux ExFAT filing system. You can read the details of the new features in v8 here: https://knowledgebase.macrium.com/display/KNOW80/New in Version 8 0 The WinRE based recovery environment of v8 that I am using on Windows can see my flash drive and gives me the option of either using the flash drive as a backup destination or image my flash drive to another location. So in answer to your question, if you boot your Linux system using a Macrium v8 WinRE based recovery environment, you should be able to create a forensic backup of any supported filesystem to a usb flash drive.
Thank you for the answer and the link. I'll go have a read and then see if they will offer me an upgrade deal, LOL!! Since I am using v5 probably not but you have to try. I don't actually have a Windows OS that I use so creating the recovery environment should be fun --- not!
Does MR 8 FREE include a rescue environment builder with all files in the download or is that reserved for the paid version? I have a Win 10 Pro VM where I could temporarily install MR just to create the rescue environment. I only want to use the recovery environment for forensic linux system backups and that is it! Would be easy to simply dd the linux images BUT dd runs on USB 2 and that is slowwwwwwwwwwww writing out 1/2 Tb of data.
Got it! It was very easy to create rescue media on MR 8 Free using a Win10 Pro VM. BTW --- it totally sees my usb /boot sticks so now I can just do one total backup instead of taking multiple steps like I had to do before. Hats off to the MR team and version 8! My MR Pro 5 could not "see" any USB's --- frustrating.
