Just to see if I understood all correctly ;) :

So in the future there will be:

    1. Sandboxie Classic (basic functionality, "old" user interface)

    2. Sandboxie Plus, with the extended, latest "state of the art" functionality and three different UIs to choose:
    a) Classic View
    b) Simple View
    c) Advanced View
All three viewing modes with identical functionality but different look.

    Right?

    PS:
    I am aware of this:
    *) [= classic view]
Nevertheless I fear that the double usage of the word "Classic" for two different things will easily lead to confusion: The one person refers to "Sandboxie Classic", the other to the "Classic View" of Sandboxie Plus. (We see the confusion already in the above discussion, including myself.) So perhaps it would be useful to change the expression for the "Classic View" to something other like e.g. "Traditional View"?

I don't like traditional sounds to positive, how about legacy view ?

how about this context menu scheme for the classic view

    upload_2022-7-8_9-34-38.png

its almost original but has the sandbox tools and move box/group entries in addition

I could drop the move to entierly as now we can use drag and drop

And may be box tools should be called Misceleniosue tools as it merges box tools + box content + snapshot manager

The icons on the right you see in the SbieCtrl.exe window, so its not a mater of keeping when I try to replicate something its a mater of re doing,
now Qt does not intent to use differently sized icons in a QTreeView changing this just to make the icons smaller and maintain proper geometry (a cheep fix would be to create 32x32 icons with 8 empty pixels on each side) is not strait forward leaving the consistently icons large would be simple and as the screenshot shows dont take away much space experientially not vertically only 16 pixels horizontaly are used more than inc classic.

was not that difficult after all:
    upload_2022-7-8_9-59-15.png

and for you Bo without icons:

Yes, "legacy" is also o.k., I think. I had it even in mind when I wrote my posting but was not sure if it is semantically fitting in this context.

Concerning the (size of the) icons, this is for me not such an important matter, but nevertheless I see the following: According to the picture in post Nr. 28, the icons for the sandboxes will be small and the ones for the processes running in a sandbox (e.g. firefox.exe) will be big. Comparing them, one could say that they are tiny vs. huge. ;) To my mind, this is a disproportion not so pleasant for the eyes and without logical reason for such a distinction.

Here is a preview build: xanasoft.com/Downloads/Sandboxie-Plus-x64-v1.2.0-CV.zip
just download and unpack over an existing 1.2.0 installation and enjoy the classic ui

please let me know what you think.

Native - 150% - Classic View - Classic tray icon - Process ID not checked...works for me.
    Advanced View is beautiful.
    Classic View is beautiful.
    Simple View is beautiful.
    Not using Classic Background.
    Not using Dark Theme.

Unpacked over v1.2.0 (portable mode). No glitches so far.
I'm glad the "file" tab in classic UI includes the maintenance menu (esp Uninstall All, useful for portable installs.)
The UI shows v1.2.1. So, does this preview include fix for issue with OpenKeyPath introduced in v1.1.1 #2006

@DjKilla: Obviously you refer to a change from Sandboxie Classic to Sandboxie Plus. But this thread has to do with something different: with a new viewing mode called "Classic" in Sandboxie Plus. So in a certain sense you are off-topic here in this thread. :p But it's not directly your fault but a consequence of a certain confusion caused by the double use of the expression "classic". ;)

So please, @DavidXanatos, try to use consequently from now on the term "legacy" (or whatever you would prefer) instead of "Classic" when dealing with the additional viewing mode in Sandboxie Plus. The longer you continue to write about "Classic View" or "Classic UI", the less people will get accustomed to an alternative expression.

    Concerning the preview build itself:
For me all looks the same with the preview build. Obviously I made some mistake with the unpacking / installation. I will have to try it again.

What worked for me is the unpacked files are copy/pasted (replacing files) in my Sandboxie-Plus 1.2.0 folder. And to enable/change Views. What works for me is Exit SandMan tray. Launch SandMan. I don't start UI with Windows nor start UI with process. I manually call SandMan from SandMan pin'd to taskbar. Just me.

O.k. Then I installed it correctly and my mistake must be something else.

Anyway, it's not so important for me to see it. I was only curious how it looks like. ;)

@david. This question is for you (only). In this new Classic that you are creating, Can I get Sandboxie control to look like this, a yes or no answer is enough? Thank you.

Looks pretty close. Is that thing in Martian green a sandbox? If it is a sandbox, why does it have to be green?

Edit: Can the blue in the title bar be changed to.....the white color that control has in my picture.

The collor of the title bar depands on your windows configuration, i set my windows 10 dev VM up to use the aero lite theme and color the title and window border in this nice blue.
You can set your windows up any way you want and set whatever color pleases you.

The box in green is a sandbox of the compartment type, in the Plus UI different types of boxes are displayed in different colors to emphasis their level of isolation/security.

On your system with normally configured sandboxed not using any special box types all boxes should be displays in the regular yellow color.

EDIT: one more note: boxes with drop admin rights enabled are currently displayed in orange, but this will no longer be the case in the 1.3.xx line of builds as they will come with even more advanced isolation and security enhancements so the orange box type will be re purposed for those.
And normal boxes only with drop admin rights will remain yellow.

    @bo elam
I think it might be time for you to try the plus UI, you don't need to install anything, just grab the latest plus installer from github and select the Extract option this will just unpack all the files into a folder of your choosing.

    upload_2022-7-9_11-1-0.png

Then you can replace the files with the once from my preview download and start sandman, it will talk to the existing installation of sandboxie and allow you to try the new UI out without making permanent changes to your system.
