This Dell XPS 8930, on win11.

I believe it may have been win10, at the time, but win11 inherited the problem. Win11 forums no help, as was M$. I have some workarounds, but still a bug. An interesting problem:

Dell per service tag found urgent i think it's called RST (Intel Rapid Storage driver) dl from Dell on install msg this driver cannot be uninstalled.

Upon reboot from driver install pin number, changed to that of an ancient account. The account used just previously does not exist on this machine.

I checked online signed into each account: ricorocks & weltybark

I thought but check first, I should just be able to sign out of one account & re-logon to desired.

Mentioned sign out, sign in at the 11 forum & M$ all seemed against this idea

driver > M$ account changes > ricorocks not seen on machine >

10 got the crap driver, from Dell, reverting back to 10 problem would still exist, as the un removable driver is still in place.

I wonder if that driver could be broken & removed. This all started with a failed sata hdd. Replaced drive, real slow boot, but really fast windows (slowdown) on boot Dells logo on boot. Suspected was RST. So when Dell had the RST driver, I thought that would work.

end on a highlight, the slow boot ended with win11, one of those I got some good news & bad news, stories. Happy ending still elusive

I doubt it is the RST driver. The most immediate question is what problem do you still have? Is there still an issue or are you wanting to replace the driver for the sake of doing so? You may be better off to keep it as is. I had a laptop that after a certain version would no longer boot with the newer RST driver. Is your chipset supported by the newer driver? If it seems ok now you may want to call it done. If you are still having an issue please detail what it is.

For awhile it was email, it wanted to use email associated with the old account. Deleted hotmail, would not allow any new acct to be added. Solved using outlook. Challenge questions have been changed, slowly finding. I use Roboform, but it's now associated with the older account. Chipset has been updated. RST is working (from) Dell but it does not have an interface, like Intel's tray icon. No control over Dell's RST. Also this befuddled Intel support. Dells driver version is higher than Intel's so it won't install over it.

I believe I should allow Windows Updates to install drivers, & abandon Dell for drivers. As M$ works in collaboration with vendors thru Windows driverstore, this would mean, from Dell meeting, Windows criteria. Hence windows did not offer the problematic driver I got from Dell. Some people are adamant I should be using Dell as source for drivers.

I found this & I assume it's not working, & safe to try to remove it, most likely would return after reboot. Any hints on tracking this down. Is this the thorn or an innocent leaf? Show hidden devices used

A Google search gives the impression that NVVHCI is NVIDIA related. Maybe you should go ahead and take a shot at letting Windows update install some drivers. Make a backup first of you want the opportunity to reverse it.

Close those other Device Manager windows and click on the unknown device.
Now, go to the View menu at the top of Device Manager and select "Devices by Connection".
That should show you what the unknown device is connected to and may give you a clue as to what it is.

Many times you can uninstall third party drivers in Safe Mode. Microsoft generally installs its generic "go-to" driver upon restarting into your Desktop. Now if you want to risk this, well, maybe have an image or a restore point.

    Prompting me to reinstall?
2 other bugs, system restore was broken in 10 & 11 tried M$ fail.
I thought this was behind me, I installed updated bios from dell, then windows update says bios update install, It finally quit, but now windows finds another bios update. Happened many times over the last two weeks

note sys restore & constantly available update (all same version) were prior to RST from Dell

Dell scan found no problems, sfc /scannow no issues, & name escapes me now run from cmd "restore image" or "check image options

Probably. If it were me I would remove the other device and try again. Might not help but it can't hurt.

I personally wouldn't remove it until you establish what controller it's sitting on. You lose the clue. Even though it'll probably come back anyway.
My guess is it's a Universal Serial Bus controller. Maybe ASMedia.
But you probably won't need to guess. You should know for sure if the OP does the simple thing of what I suggested in my previous post.

You can try third party driver updater softwares. If windows cant find suitable driver, it uses "generic" one.
I know, someone might say, never ever use a third party driver updater software's, but in some situations it could be a lifesaver. It was for me many times.
@roger_m has a lot of knowledge about various driver updaters and it helped me a lot, because of him recommendations of driver updaters.

My main PC is a cheap Lenovo desktop PC. It uses a "generic" M.2 made by Samsung. Samsung Magician SSD tool, of course does not recognize it, because my M.2 is a "generic" made by Samsung. So windows uses it own "generic" driver for that.
But in device manager, you can "force" to install Samsung 960 driver rather than generic one.
I this way, according to Crystaldiskmark, speed increase between 10-15 %.

It's possible that a driver updater will find the correct driver. Before using one, I suggest that you take a look at optional updates in Windows Update to see if there is a driver update there. There are some drivers which are only available as optional updates which will work better than the drivers Windows normally installs.

If you want to try driver updaters, I recommend Driver Easy and Smart Driver Manager. Unlike other drivers they usually only find the correct OEM drivers for your computer, rather than generic ones which may not work as well, as explained in the following link.
    https://www.drivereasy.com/another-product-updates-more-drivers-than-driver-easy-why/

They both can be used without paying.

    Dell wants to install this

NVIDIA is almost 2 years newer than Dell

Also BIOS updates from either 'install' (no error) then check again later, Dell/Win prompt for new update, within days time or so

Looked at Windows Update History and found only two, mentioning Dell both BIOS, my bad version did change, and Dell wants to install yet another version. Windows Update on drivers, does not offer newer driver.
It's like one is not aware of the other.

It seems Dells RST > broke Intel's RST > Dell's RST then did install sans GUI. Where in 'dev mgr' is RST driver found?

More on RST update search found nothing search web, but search PC updated. The current RST is from Dell who modified it & put version 17.x on it, while Intels current version is 13.x
    upload_2022-6-9_8-33-41.png
It's working, but no GUI or GUI removed by Dell? But setting migrated seems the culprit

"Premium Controller" No "Premium Controller" on my system. It might be a rootkit problem or no. Suggested to do offline rootkit scan, because Intel does not name their own driver like that.

The Intel RST driver ver. 13.x, was modified by Dell & given ver. 17.x

Can't hurt I'll try several 'offline' root kit scans

Partial victory today! GeForce driver woul not install due to outtated GeForce Experience App. Manual dl installed & updated GeForce Exp. app.
Nvidia is closed today, for reasons not given, call back later

MBAM updated & scan for root kits NONE
    Bitdefender updated NONE

@Brummelchen - Not a bogus driver, but a modified by Dell driver
From: Dell's support page per id tag on the machine
    upload_2022-6-9_14-19-25.png

This is installed currently as 17 is newer that 16! What's lacking in my version, is a GUI. upload_2022-6-9_14-19-25.png upload_2022-6-9_14-19-25.png
