I recently had to change my pc and used an image to transfer - hardware was different, so there were some initial issues with drivers. In principle everything works fine but my MS Office 2016 did not accept the license (due to the hardware change). So I moved on and reinstalled another version of MS office and for a few days this worked fine. Then new problems occurred with the program starting but then immediately crashing. This also happened to one other program, a replacement to explorer.

Neither of these programs were ever run sandboxed or installed in sandboxie. I was running the latest plus version and have been very happy. I do not see how having sandboxie installed would interfere with installing other software outside of it. I have now installed Office 365 and uninstalled sandboxie and at the moment I can work. However whenever I use my browsers or look at a pdf file, I feel naked and unprotected and really want to reinstall sandboxie. Is there any chance that there is some interference by sb that may have caused this?

If neither app was ever sandboxed in any way then there's no way Sandboxie could be causing your issue. Just to be safe, backup and then delete your sandboxie.ini file in c:\windows. If you are still having issues then you know Sandboxie is not at fault.

Try unchecking the marked option in the global compatybility settings and possibly reboot just in case

David, I am grasping at straws. At the moment I am not actually running SB as I uninstalled it. However I notice that a folder was left under program files and in fact one of the sandboxes was not emptied upon previous closing. I also can see sandboxie still listed under apps and I could easily reinstall from there or of course just download Version 22.

I managed to work fine yesterday after removing sandboxie but this morning after reboot, some programs again had the same issue of starting (for a flash) and then vanishing, not appearing in task manager or running in the background. Apart from MS office (I now installed 365 whereas before I had an older version) , this issue has also appeared before for Xyplorer ( an explorer replacement) and Vivaldi. Actually Vivaldi was the first program that became unreliable. Usually a reboot or restart of the program though fixed it for me. This morning every single browser had the flash crash but after a reboot for now things are back to normal.
I really don't know if there is some hardware issue, some software incompatibility or some other cause and quite likely it has nothing to do with sandboxie. I am not sure though where to look now. I am thinking as if some firewall or AV program is stopping these programs from running but the only program I have is eset/nod and I don't see any alerts. I also did a full scan without issues.

I think after an image restore on different hardware it's hard to pinpoint stuff. I never had browser (Firefox) problems with hundreds of restores to the same hardware.

Sounds like it was not a clean uninstall. What may help is to reinstall,
then delete contents of all sandboxes, then uninstall again. Worth a try.

If you use SBIE and EIS, you should disable Banking and Payment protection or browsers won't run under SBIE. Even if protected browser is not launched just by that option being enabled will prevent launching it under SBIE.

I reinstalled sandboxie and checked these settings. First question - I understand the difference between checking a box and unchecking a box but I notice that some boxes are blacked out. Why? I can change this to ticked or unticked but wonder
what the consequences of the black box are?
Also, any particular reason that I should not improve compatibility with Office - I would have assumed that this should be checked. Fwiw, when I reinstalled it, it was a black box and I now have it checked. It works though I find Office 365 less responsive
as my previous version 2016 but guess this is due to office and has nothing to do with sb.

I use Office 365 not 2021 on latest build, and it works well for me.

Can you tell me how to configure it? Because Word won't run for me in sandbox.

I'm not sure TBH - David fixed it to work quite a few versions ago. But check under compatibility settings for

Other than that, have you tried setting up a new default sandbox to see if Word works with that? And check you are on the latest version - I'm running Plus but I doubt that will make any difference.

And I have it installed outside of a sandbox.

    Good luck.
