Is it working OK for you?
There are reports of problems on the Samsung forum.

I really think Samsung are dropping the ball with their applications and firmwares of late.

Yes, there is a new version (7.1.1.820) distributed via the internal updater only. The site still has the previous one (7.0.1.630).

Are you referring to the latest version 7.1.1 (7.1.1.820) or the broken one 7.1.0 (7.1.0.770)?

    Hi anon.

They are talking about v7.1.1.820 on the Samsung forum.
But someone has only just posted that it is OK for them. Maybe it doesn't affect everyone. Not sure.

I have it installed but I don't do anything with it, that is in terms of "Performance Optimization" it is set on "Standard Mode". "Full Performance Mode" it warns that the SSD might run very hot and Samsung won't be liable if something negative happens. I basically use it sporadically for "diagnostic scans" and performance benchmarks...

I used to have Samsung Magician running at startup, but I don't anymore as I don't find it to be very useful.
The biggest benefit that I get from Samsung Magician is the ease of updating firmware.
But as usual, as SSDs/hard drives start to age, the firmware updates dry up. Once this happens, I remove Samsung Magician from startup.

Didn't have problems with 7.1.0 and now updated to 7.1.1 just fine. (nVme - 970 Evo Plus).

Thanks @anon and all others for confirming that there was/is indeed a new version.
(I think I'll wait some time...)

    Thanks!

    Two side notes:
    1.
The pdf install guide does mention revision number 1.3
It tells only "bug fix". It's their guide. IMHO they should tell more about "bug fix". (but we see other companies doing the same: don't tell more about bug fixes).

    2.
The program itself is saying only revision number 1.1. That's not consistent. Sigh...

    Hi
I just created a dual boot scenario for the first time, do i need to install SM on booth Os or is it enough with one of them?
It seems to be enough with one since when installing on the other, SM shows that everything is already activated.

Anyone knows the answer, on both or on just one?

It handles the whole disc but, it does some settings on C: where it is installed, that means that when D: becomes C: when shifting, it will lack thoose settings. Or?

    Hi @pb1

Seeing that no one has answered you, I'll give you my opinion about Samsung Magician.

The only benefit that I get from Samsung Magician is when my Samsung drives are relatively new and firmware updates are still being delivered.
As the drives get older and the firmware updates dry up, I don't find any use for it after that.

So, for that usage, you only need it on one operating system.
If your Samsung drives are getting older and the firmware updates have dried up, maybe consider not installing it at all.

If you use it for monitoring, then you'll need it on both operating systems.

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Samsung\Samsung Magician\Migration Service\MigrationService.exe
If you don't want the MigrationService.exe to run continuously, simply disable it via Autoruns (Autoruns > Services).

It's a good thing that smth happened in the middle of the installer so i paused and then when i came back i was on the "do u accept the privacy policy" screen and then i decided to read and then things didn't go too well... But the good thing is that you can block it in the firewall and it will not transmit any more information, while all of its functions will still work. The bad thing is, that the one time a week or month that you wanna check for updates to the firmware, you will have to allow internet connection and then they can harvest your information again. Helps if you're from the EU or California, but they still harvest it, but if you're not from one of those they share it with all kinds of 3rd parties even moreso

Some Lenovo Desktop(especially Legion models) does have OEM Samsung nvme storages. Of course Samsung Magician does not recognize it, because it is OEM Samsung, not "Evo" series.
Windows uses it's own "Generic" driver for that. But you can manually install Samsung driver. I do have Lenovo Legion desktop PC with OEM Samsung nvme.
Crystal Disk Mark test gave me about 10% more r/w speed vs Microsoft own Generic driver.
    More info HERE
    Combine this with PrimoCache
    Blazingly fast combo.
