Regular Brave users––Via search engines, I've revisited this subject off and on over the past year or so.

I've read developer comments that stated they consider auto-updating a security feature so they don't intend to allow manual updating. This thinking seemingly changed at some point––they stated that a manual updating option will be added but it wasn't a priority. Did they mean it or was the statement made because they felt badgered? I don't know.

Does anyone know if the developers have given a firm answer as to if/when they would include an option to manually update Brave?

    Thanks.

It appears that the feature request is still carrying the "P4 backlog" tag. No announced timeframe.

After the last update, my VPN Proxy extension for Brave crashed.

Tried some other ones but all of them were leaking my DNS.

I've removed all my VPN extensions for Brave, but Brave was leaking my ISP DNS with a desktop VPN app.
I've checked other browsers - NO DNS LEAKS.
I've removed all my Brave extensions - just pure BRAVE - and it was still leaking my ISP DNS.

It's so sad. In the past I've stopped using BRAVE for a while just because of that DNS LEAK.
Like a year ago, BRAVE was able to resolve that LEAKING DNS issue, and I went back to Brave, but this latest update, once again, brought that LEAKING DNS issue back.
    It's sad.

    What site are you using?

I tried quite a few to see if I could find a dns leak, and so far nothing. Though I personally don’t rely on VPN extension (unless it’s used in combination with a desktop one).
So I currently don’t know if that could have changed the results

Two things about that newest Brave update.
Suddenly, my FastestVPN extension is crashing.
    It has never happened before.
I've said, "No problem. Let's use a different VPN extension," but...
It shows that I'm leaking my DNS.

It's visible on DoILeak, BrowserLeaks, bash.ws, etc...
Usually, I use two kinds of VPN apps/extension.

My first VPN is the desktop based one.
I've checked for any DNS leaks with Firefox - NO LEAKS, with Chrome - NO LEAKS, with Edge - NO LEAKS while using only the desktop-based VPN.
Only BRAVE was leaking my ISP DNS while using the desktop-based VPN.

I've removed all extensions from Brave - just in case - but my Brave was leaking DNS.
It did not leak yesterday before I updated it.

It's not the first time that's happening with BRAVE.
I will need to find another browser for the time being.

I just checked and my IP address is not leaked in the latest Brave while connected to my VPN. I do not use VPN extensions.

Here is my Brave without any extensions, including VPN.
Just a regular desktop VPN app.
    DNS LEAK!

Here is my Firefox without any VPN add-ons, just the desktop VPN - the same one.
    NO LEAK.

Here is my Edge results with the same desktop VPN app.

    Let's sum up.

Only for me - suddenly after the latest update - on all three computers the Brave browser LEAKS(!).

Ok, I tested both the Windscribe desktop app and the extension

    Desktop app: No leak.

    Extension: DNS leak

I believe the extension (if used) should be together with the desktop app. In addition, I don’t think it was design to prevent dns leak in the first place so I don’t mind the results.
