Dont assume you know what I DL, but since I know you want to know, here, this are some of the movies I downloaded this past few days. Learn about quality. Please stay away from my posts. You are an annoying brat.

Bo I have never excluded anything and I never recover files.

After testing something out in SD, if I want to keep it I then come out of SD and download the tested software onto my 'real' system.

Moving the Downloads folder to a non-system partition is not an option?

For convenience, I couldn't go without excluding Bookmarks. But is probably safer not to exclude anything. When I used SD before, I excluded bookmarks and my downloads folder. Excluding your Downloads folder worked like giving Direct File access to the downloads folder in Sandboxie. It worked fine then. But years ago, files where smaller.so is probably better to avoid doing that now with downloads. This is why I am asking.

No, that wouldn't work for me. But thank you for the suggestion. :)

I used to swear by SD as my fave silver bullet against all things terrible that could happen to your system that you hope never will and recently switched to Faronics Deep Freeze. SD appears to be inching forward to one of the greatest iconic apps ever coded destined to be relegated in the category of abandonware.
A real loss and a pity if that turns out to be the case.

Hey, Bo... At your leisure checkout the outrageous Nicolas Cage in "Vampire's Kiss." Once seen, a flick you're not likely to forget anytime soon.
p.s. And then again, there's always the visual extravaganza masterpieces, "The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover" (1989) and "The City of Lost Children" (1995). :shifty:

And back to topic. @Lagavulin16 may have a point. Softpedia indicates that SD's last update was August 2020. And the previous update was May 2018 (Again, according to Softpedia).
I'm a huge SD fanboy for sure. This app is obviously not as urgent to be updated ASAP as an AV app. So maybe after an extended period of lack of updates it's a matter of opinion when to shop elsewhere. Sometimes wish (well, not really at all nor ever) that these apps came with an expiration date like your grocery store loaf of bread.

That's working fine for me from years because I wanted to protect by definition whole entire of system disk. Download folder is on another disk and is permanently protected/restricted by SpyShelter. No exclusion on system disk :thumb:

All manner of Legendary time tested special programs eventually outlive their maker. Long as SD keeps working on my 8.1 platform units as it has from day one many years ago, it can stay.

It's been around for about 15 years, and even though the developer is like a ghost the program seems to be resilient to any MS update whims. "Never sell the bear's skin before one has killed the beast", SD is alive and well...

Sadly I may have to agree with you. SD does not work with Windows 11. This means that its days are numbered.

With Windows 11 I got a series of BSOD and scarily they appeared at boot time. This was because I stupidly enabled shadow mode "at next boot time". Anyway, that meant that I could not start the computer at all because of the continuous BSOD. Thank goodness I had an image backup which I used to recover my C drive.

    @Izettso
    Have you tried
    'Frequently Asked Questions

Q : Why Shadow Mode works only if I restart the computer? If I shut down the computer, all changes remain after reboot.
Fast startup is turned on by default in Windows 8/10. When it is turned on, Windows will take hibernation instead of shut down, so after reboot all changes will remain. To discard all changes made in shadow mode after shut down, please disable fast startup.'
    ................
Have you turned off Fast startup (aka: hiberboot, hybrid boot, or hybrid shutdown)?
Tony (Shadow Defender developer) recommends that you do.

If this is true for all Win 11 users, then it really might be the end of SD, although one should not rule out an imminent update...

@aldist made two postings on December 30, 2021, but he does not specify any peculiarities about SD and Windows 11. You may be right that on my computer SD only works (or had worked) with Windows 10. :'(

I'm not a disbeliever, but I would dearly love to hear from someone who has actually used SD successfully with Windows 11.

SD system requirements.JPG The download page of the SD website clearly supports Win 11... Therefore Win 11 must have been tested when it was first launched.

I tried Windows 11 in a Lenovo laptop fully compatible with it for several months. In this period, I tried SD several times, without problems. I use SD only occasionally, without any exclusion.

I think if there was an obvious and basic incompatibility with Windows 11, it would also appear in Windows 10.

There is one known incompatibility of SD with both Windows 10 and 11, about which I posted previously. The SD driver is incompatible with the Core Isolation Memory Integrity function.

Thanks, it explains why the CIMIF could not be activated on my computer...
