It`s not that often I get excited about a new Linux distro since they come out almost weekly and mostly as some amateur hour respin of something else but Titan is different. As a big fan of Kanotix which seems to have stalled in development, Titan is a worthy replacement. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7VAytjb_ic
If you like it, it must be good, but I can't find it Google doesn't know what it is, and neither does Distrowatch. Can you link me? Never mind, I found it https://sourceforge.net/projects/titan-linux/
Sorry people above - I should have included a link to the SourceForge page too. Having captured at least some interest this might appeal. Among other things it explains the 'Titan Toolbox'. Not exactly unique in concept but some of what it does is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fYFc1W9ArQ
This does not appear to be a beginner-friendly distro. https://titan-data.io/docs/version/0.5.4/lifecycle/install.html
This 'Titan' is nothing to do with Titan Linux which installs just like most other Debian based distros.
Next fork of distro which will die faster than exist.. How much i love linux this is clearly cons Instead of help in develope oryginal distro - pseudo dev make little change in oryginal distro which can do most user and they gonna make it separate sub system. Its like would windows make sub system bc your task bar is on top instead of bot position monitor..... There is aurond 10-15 worth distro of linux and meaby 1-3 somehow good folkrs rest is just joke/patogen for me.
Yet another post bashing the efforts of Opensource contributors with absolutely no foundation but wait.... YES! your signature link to a site containing GASP! a whole stack of unmissable PROMOTIONS!
Not all developers choose to be listed there especially since the majority of visitors miss the small print... "The DistroWatch Page Hit Ranking statistics are a light-hearted way of measuring the popularity of Linux distributions and other free operating systems among the visitors of this website. They correlate neither to usage nor to quality and should not be used to measure the market share of distributions. They simply show the number of times a distribution page on DistroWatch was accessed each day, nothing more". ...and assume their list is some sort of quality rating. Despite their efforts to tighten up the system the 'page rankings' are still abused and present a false image of how 'popular' some distros actually are.
@Gringo95 -- Thanks! I did not know that info. Problem is, I prefer to use a distro that has been around for a while, has updated often, has several reviews under its belt, & seems to have a fairly large support base. AFAIK, right now Distrowatch is the only game in town for that sort of info, flawed as it may be. In my youth I was always on the bleeding edge of new stuff but nowadays I favor "old friends, tried & true."
DistroWatch is certainly a good reference point. I’m not knocking it for that or their full reviews which are also first rate. The user reviews however are not so hot. In among the genuine comments are a mix of shills, trolls and folks who haven’t got a clue what they’re talking about. You can spend ages scrolling through the more popular pages and gain very little. Phoronix has some useful stuff and of course Igor (Mrkvonic – Dedoimedo) who posts here turns out regular high quality technical reviews. A proportion of the issues he finds won’t bother average home users or indeed be even noticed by them but if you want the nuts and bolts stuff his reviews are an excellent source. Back to Titan and I know folks can easily become obsessed with monitor watching but for some people resource use is important. I have both pure Debian 11.3 from a net install and Titan installed on a Dell Vostro i3-10100 + 8G with a Kingston NVMe. With exactly the same program mix installed and the same stuff running in the background such as Slack, Evolution, Gis Weather and Conky. Memory use is 24% Titan and 35% for Debian. With Chrome and a few tabs open the memory is 38% Titan and 46% Debian. This at least proves one of their claims for system performance.
Titan is a new KDE Debian based iteration. Distrowatch have a list of newcomers waiting for a place on their page. Takes time. Btw, Titan's 1.2 updated iso just came out a few hours ago. This has to be one of the most lightweight and fastest KDE desktop. For example: While Win 10 takes about 10-12 sec. to shutdown, this one takes 2-3 sec. Dual bootin' on an SSD.
