Sounds quite interesting, but it's a bit confusing because they say it won't be a true fork, but they still use Chromium? But hopefully it won't become too bare bones.

I gave up on DuckDuckGo after reading a few days ago that they primarily get their results from Bing.

"Brave has its own search index for answering common queries privately without reliance on other providers."
Thus far I like it, there is 1 sec delay upon every query, but I like uncensored and mostly unfiltered results, for now.

I've been thinking about giving it a go. Are you using the Brave browser as well or just their search engine?

Just the search engine, the browser is too slow, even with the brave ads disabled, unless the launch parameter is used, which disables that nonsense completely.

Unfortunately I've given up and gone back to Google. It gives me the results I want. I guess if I'm gonna use an Android phone on Google Fi they can't track me any more than they already do. Nothing is more creepy than getting that monthly email that shows me every place I have been for the month. I see no point in trying to turn it off. I'd rather be part of the loop than have them do it anyway while I pretend they don't.

I don't use DuckDuckGo any more. Reason, they are down-ranking sites associated with Russian "disinformation". I call that censorship. I am the only one that decides what is or is not. I switched to Brave Search, looking good so far. My only complaint is they need to return more in the search results and there is no more result at the bottom. If they is a way to fix this I am not aware of it.

I tend to use Start Page, although Brave is good.

Start Page is a good search engine if you want to use the privacy and the benefits of Google search results. The problem as I see it since it uses Google, Google search algorithms will be applied so Start Page will give you what Google wants you to see with the privacy of Start Page. Start Page is one of my preferred search engines. Brave is my default. DuckDuckGo is also an selectable search engine just no longer the default

    Brave Search has limited performance.

Seems like such an unfortunate and unnecessary surrender. My home page and all new tabs using a speed dial chrome extension includes search engines Metager, Searx, and Gibiru. Between these three search engines,
Google has absolutely nothing more to offer and may even miss a link or two in the process (read possible hyperbole here... as if I would sweat out the time to actually research that!).
Assuming the three aforementioned search engines hold true to their privacy claims, there's a choice between a subjectively lesser and/or greater evil at large. Juggle a few search engines that will absolutely give you more than ample info on any conceivable topic,
or stick with "the big G" that will eventually be able to deduce the color of your underwear you put on yesterday and when the last time was that you sipped on a martini (in my case that's an every day affair, and yet Google still can't have at it).

I'm sure they already do this through our phones. More than once I have mentioned a TV show, movie, or song and had something related to it when I go to YouTube. And none of these were current. When you are at someone else's house and mention a song from the 70s and it comes up in your YouTube suggestions you know it is not a coincidence.

@xxJackxx Two things to say about that: 1) All too true. 2) And downright scary.

@Sampei Nihira Suggesting that Brave's Search engine at this point "has limited performance" is graciously kind. At this rate they've got several years to go (in perhaps my pessimistic opinion) before they're ready for prime time.

Brave Search is a beta though. I believe it has its origins in Cliqz.

If your needs are limited (very limited) you're good to go.
I personally use images to check the performance of a search engine against Google.
With D.D.G. the result is acceptable with Brave Search I'm at best 2% of images searched correctly compared to Google.

Same here. I do wish more results are returned but, I am getting good search results and unlike the other engines I don't need pages of results to find what I am looking for.

Yes, I guess that is the reason they include links to optional searches.
