Anyone who upgraded to this ver. should verify that Google Safe Browsing feature still works. It doesn't for me. A good test site is wicar.org. In the past, I couldn't even access the web page with the individual tests. Now all run w/o a peep from Firefox.
I didn't perform any phishing tests. Go here: https://www.wicar.org/test-malware.html and see if any tests there are detected.
No reason. Google Safe Browsing works with both phishing and malware (image below): You'll notice the different pop-up in the 2 cases I've listed. Your initial request: has been fulfilled.
The Safe Browsing feature works with Firefox 97.0.2 on my end. The malware is also detected by Windows Security here on Win 11.
I tested again using the AMTSO Desktop Cloudcar test and Google Safe Browsing within FF blocked the eicar download. It appears Google for some reason is no longer blacklisting access to https://www.wicar.org/test-malware.html sub-domains.
Just updated to v. 98.0. Firefox still didn't block the eicar download but did a good job otherwise on the wicar site. And like others, Defender blocked the eicar file when attempting to execute from downloads. So, I'm satisfied. One way or another stuff gets blocked, hopefully. Right-clicked to scan on that eicar with HitmanPro, though--nothing "detected." Oh, and not using Google Safe Browsing in Firefox.
