Yes, core processes as well as data storage was move to Zurich. Essentially all the stuff collected by the KSN (Kaspersky Security Network) now resides there. Although this sidesteps the Russian law that requires all data be made available to the Russian government and now will be overseen by an independent third party, what they downplay is that the accumulated data will be available to others at the discretion of Kaspersky, and the disclosure of who these others are has been blocked by K.

Also, although this move has been made the corporation itself will still be based in Moscow for simple reason that the RSA is taxation nirvana for approved companies deemed essential.

"Thousands of Russian tech workers sign a petition opposing Putin’s invasion of Ukraine More than 10,000 IT workers had signed the petition by Saturday

Thousands of Russian technology workers signed a petition calling for their government to stop its military operations in Ukraine, adding their voices to the growing calls from Russian citizens opposed to the war. More than 10,000 people had signed the petition by Saturday evening, just two days after Natalya Lukyanchikova, who works for a large Russian technology company, created it and posted it to her Facebook page. Among them were employees of Russia’s most prominent tech companies, including social media giant VK, cybersecurity leader Kaspersky Lab and online job recruitment platform HeadHunter..."

The dilemma for users of the free version is where to go from here, having had to drop down to a Windows 8.1 laptop after my Windows 10 one died im not sure Defender is up to much on 8.1,Avast,AVG and Avira are bundled with bloat and involved in data mining scandals,Panda i have read isnt really an option for a long time.

Im thinking of mixing Defender with CS's tweaked Comodo Firewall unless others can recommend something else to try.

B- Defender works without issue paired with CF. Personally I have Defender running on my systems as I've found no valid reason to turn it off.

Do you recommend Windows Defender on 8.1 systems as adequate protection these days supplemented with CF ?.

Although currently on Win10, I had WD + my CF on Win 8 systems for years without issue, but note that any definition based (dumb) addition really only is there to stop things before they will die in CF Containment and to fulfill a need some have for a dedicated AV module.

However as an alternative (or actually an addition) to WD on a CF system, one can consider WVSX.

Right now I'm running Kaspersky cloud free on this beast, since for some unknown reason the Comodo Firewall GUI has a bad habit of disappearing. So, I loaded Kaspersky free and have Shadow Defender. I am liking the included features in free Kaspersky Security Cloud and think I'll hang onto it.

I use WD and that's it> nothing added. My extra "layer" of defense is an image backup I make daily. Never had a problem and have not been infected for 30 years.

About removed posts regarding the situation regarding Russia.

That's good to read,I originally added CF to the mix but that didn't work out too well and I had to remove it,I am thinking of adding Wise Vector as extra security as I have read some good reports about that.

I get very few "hiccups" with WD and virtually no popups that most AVs are replete with- and that is one of the main reasons I don't use them.

The problem is: they might just not "try" hard enough....which we could only know in hindsight....

    Hello @darts

Then the geographic location information for Kaspersky Lab Headquarters (bottom of the page) could have been updated at almost anytime in the last five years...

If your personal finances are on the same computer running a Kaspersky product, I believe you are taking an unwarranted risk.

If an enterprise/commercial business/(local or state) government computer operation is expecting security protection from a Kaspersky product, IMHO IT management and above would have been derelict in their duties to not correct this years ago.

If a nation states' critical/important IT activities included Kaspersky products, the leadership loyalties should have been called into suspicion long ago.

Good move. Kaspersky may be fine- but then again, they might not be. I have a license, but I would not have it on any of my machines right now. Not worth the risk.

I have always said it, Kaspersky is a great AV but using it is like playing Russian Roulette. :cautious:

    +1
Kaspersky has more to lose than private customers if evidence will be found. sorry, but such articles are click baits (although i dont like kaspersky products /also bitdefender/ because they create more issues than they will resolve)

    antivirus for android? lol
