Does MS Office work with Wine? If it does, how well does it work and which versions work well?

The older the version of Office, the better it works. And it depends a little bit on which linux desktop environment you use, too. And certain features of Office are very hard to get working, such as proper bilingual support. In short, it is not a very satisfying experience. Not sure if you can get Outlook mail working, and even if you can, it probably won't be secure.

Moving away from Windows - the software checklist

Here's a follow-up article explaining my rationale for moving away from Windows as the operating system of choice, focusing on software parity between Windows and Linux, with a detailed breakdown of application categories, native or equivalent functionality, WINE support, and other key factors. Take a look.
